That won't be the team because as you know we sign players every summer both permanently and on loan.

You're giving the unrealistic scenario that we lose lots of players, sign nobody and make do with who's already here.

With the exception of McAtee not much support for the rest staying. Williams,Kane,Cadden and Cole are out of contract and will not command a fee so no income there. It has been pointed out on here that we've got a large squad for this league and failure to get promoted will be a chance to trim the numbers. The 4 out of contract will only stay if nobody else wants em and we'll probably offer lower wages if they accept them. were currently showing £4m in debt so how are we going to sign anyone unless it's another "Punt" who ends up on loan..Yes we will bring someone in but the players I've mentioned (With the exception of Watters) are all currently part of the 1st team set up and playing regular football. I'd like to think we'd sign 2 or 3 quality players before the new season kicks off but can't see where we'll pay for it..Loans will probably be the way forward but my scenario shows we have players who have experience at this level. there's also the academy players who I didn't mention..happy to be wrong but can't see this board splashing the cash but let's hope we go up then it will all be different..

We allegedly spent £300k (twice)ish on 2 players in the Summer which is significantly more than most teams in this league spend in the entirety so it’s not true they won’t spend. Just spend on the right players.

And there's they key. weve no Anderson or kitchin to sell this time so any spend will have to be very limited and targeted at the right positions. as I said the back line is probably going to be ok with pines back, Connell and Phillips already play as does Russell, Cosgrove is ours and I'd like to see Jalo stay and partner him, my original post was intended to point out we have players at this level who are playing so we won't bring in lots of replacements for those who go. we need to ditch the Dallas and Shaw type buys and spend wages saved on fewer but better buys. I stick with my original point that they will play more of the current squad and not bring much in. but as always I respect others opinions ..

Still think some players have stuff to offer.

Personally, Lopata would be back in the first team reckoning as would Shepherd. Both players who are good enough to compete for us at League 1 level. Not sure I’d have either of them if we went up but definitely have something for a League 1 season. Both young enough as well to develop. With Pines, De Gevigney and Earl, that’s five central defenders. Should be enough unless we off Cundy another deal. That for me means we don’t need to re-sign McCart as we already have better players at the club and I’d rather give Cundy a chance to be honest. Lopata, Cundy and Shephard all win aerial battles, something we need to think about.

I’m not sure if Lofthouse returning would get him football unless Cotter or O’Keefe left. Can possibly see him being shipped out again after impressing in League 2 and reassess the following season.

Oli Shaw, Andy Dallas and Connor McCarthy will all leave and I’m not sure Joe Ackroyd will be anywhere near the first team either when he gets back. Callum Styles might also find himself back the club and obviously he’d be an asset but hopefully Sunderland take him as well need the cash.

In terms out our loanees, Roberts is a player we need to keep. Made some howlers recently but the amount of points he’s saved us is unreal. I also think it’ll be worthwhile turning Connor Grant deal into a permanent one. Connell, Phillips and Russell may all start but Wolfe is coming back and Grant will add that little bit of quality we’ve seen him play. Wycombe noticeably as well as last night. We’ll have to bring in another midfielder anyways and that’s not including Grant with the lack of depth we’ve sometimes had there recently. Connell will never be a fit for a full season.

Keeping McAtee is a must. Watters, Marsh, and Cole will all be leaving, leaving us with Cosgrove and Jalo. I wouldn’t even say Jalo is a definite either. Need to recruit up top.

I doubt we’ll sign Roberts partly due to two reasons, firstly a lot will depend on the division we’re playing in and secondly his age and long term will he have any sell on value.

Keep McAtee and Roberts, but it's a no from me to Grant and McCart.
Those who are currently away from Oakwell, I'd keep Sheppard and Lopata along with Lofthouse.
Finally, I'd get shut of Dallas,Shaw & McCarthy and pray that the marras stump up for Styles.

We haven't but assume the deals are structured so if we got 6 million for the pair we will be getting it in installments, 2 million up front, 2 million this year, 2 million next year... which should mean there's a guaranteed transfer kitty. Not that i expect us to be able to spend it all.
