That’s what amazes me. Why would anyone vote for a known and proven liar? Everyone lies but Johnson is doing more than lying he’s deceiving people with his ‘man of the people’ image, to further his interests and that of his backers. 37% of people think Johnson is honest. What does that make them? Ignorant of the facts, don’t care about the facts, or just deluded?

Oh, hold on. He’s got funny hair. And he likes a laugh. He’s just like me.

Not sure that the word deluded is strong enough.

The ‘brilliant’ trick when politicians lie constantly is that it taints the discussion.

If I say black and you say white, and the audience can’t see, then it comes down to who produces the convincing argument.

‘Just look at the lying toe rag’, doesn’t play as well as ‘the opposition are just playing politics’. It’s frustrating but true, and it’s why I think the Tories are mad to contemplate getting rid of him. Charming funny liars are a lot more popular than honest serious people.

And whilst middle aged men with beards might believe politics should be about issues, economics and the greater good, the dumb truth is that it’s simply a popularity contest.

The purpose of constant lying isn't to make people question whether something is true or not. It's to make sure everyone gives up on finding the truth.

Ever read 'The Hidden Persuaders' by Vance Packard? Written in 1958 gives an insight into how that all began...

The simpletons voted Dennis Skinner out. I don’t really care if people get upset if they are called stupid. The electorate in his constituency were stupid.

I couldn’t give a ****. I’m not shouting at anyone. They make their bed they lie in it. Not my choice but not my concern either. They have to own their choices. So if Brexit and Boris are it then they know what they voted for. I voted for neither so they are adults they need to live with that choice.

If I were in Hartlepool I’d vote for NIP.

Dennis Skinner wants an apology from the house of commons, he once got thrown out for calling David Cameron Dodgy Dave and now he has overwhelmingly been proven right.

Northern Independence Party. Very new, making a bit of a splash on social media. Not formally registered just yet so Thelma Walker is standing as an independent but endorsed by the NIP. Very much appealing to socialist / left of centre types (like me!) who are leaving the Sir Keith Red Tory Party in their droves.

What has that got to do with the fact that every single leaflet shows them pretending to be planting a tree?

I didn’t realise the thrust of your rant about anti social behaviour and the state of the roads was just based on your inherent dislike of tree planting. ;)

My point being these councillors are invisible on those issues until it comes to election time.

Just looked at the results, Tories almost took Darton West. That would have been unheard of but it does show the general poor job being done within the Labour Party as an opposition.

I'll keep saying it, until they change tactics and start promoting their own alternative policies rather than focusing on just criticising tory ones, they won't return to power. Big shake up required in the shadow cabinet IMO.

Pleased that Labour was returned in my area with a landslide and increased majority. I know some people never hear from their councillors or know who they are but they work really hard in my area. I’ve never needed to get in touch with them myself but they send communications all year round with details of what they are doing, their future plans and details of their surgeries. I was concerned it might have changed to Green as we have a large population shift every year due to students moving in/out but there was over a 3000 majority.

Pmsl.. Best bit of that, when he gets to the top of the slide with his hands in the air.. The vandalism to the slide with the appropriate drawing for that video but completely out of order in a kids playground..
