I was 6 at the time so possibly bothering my old man to build me a snowman. Btw that was the winter that DUFC threw so much sand on the pitch in which to play a cup game that in the words of a reporter it was like playing a game in the desert. Hence the nickname The Arabs.
1962/3 it wasn't the snow as there was very little but the cold every thing was iced up for months if I remember correctly.
If you look at the link in the OP it says "From Boxing Day 1962 to early March 1963, most of the British Isles was under snow". Also, Turvey Tyke's post on the previous page shows the pitch covered in snow. If that had been ice no one would have been able to stand up.
Those top two feature in my scrapbook for that season, along with the report. No room to keep them so my brother’s step daughter has them. Regret giving them away almost every day
I had to check but there seems to have been one really heavy dump of snow per month, but it was so cold the previous lot hadn't gone away. I do know Sheffield Ski Club had 9 continuous weeks of skiing....which is still a record apparently.
There is a lot of stuff in separate folders by season. Covering 1962 to the late 90s (I think - it’s been a while since I saw them).
I can remember walking along the old railway embankment between Bolton on Dearne and Highgate and seeing people skating on a frozen pond on some waste ground opposite an estate of bungalows known as the "Dunk Houses". It was where the feast (fun-fair) used pitch up in the summer.... I would have been almost 6 at the time.
