I don't think our defenders are particularly bad. Just badly managed by a poor head coach. I reckon a change of head coach, back to preferably a manager and our current crop of players would stand every chance of moving up the league without the need for such random and stranger looking loans being brought in.
That was one of the starkest things at Altrincham; just how silent the team is. Only heard Mawson try and gee the side up once in the second half. I'm lost as to why he was made captain...
Jacob was as stunned as the next man when Keith made him captain. But it was one of the best things that could have happened to him. Now not only did he have a key role on the pitch after two years of frustration and stagnation under Robins, he was given responsibility off it. He matured on and off the pitch. If Keith Hill hadn't become Barnsley manager I reckon Jacob wouldn't have flourished as he did. But you're right, I'm sure with him being named captain at such a young age it added to the hype. But Jacob's career was going nowhere fast, and here was a bloke who finally saw what he was about, told him to stop drinking and living 'the life', lose some weight and I'll make you a star. He wasn't wrong. I'm not privy to the reasons behind Alfie getting the armband, but he seems the perfect pro off the field and of the lads out there I can only really think of Hourihane as a more suitable captain.
Long was excellent for us in our worst ever side in the last decade (the relegation season for us and when you lot were all Keith's mates). I'd liked to have seen him a good side as he was on a par with the likes of Jack O'Connell and much better than Oliver bloody Lancashire. Plus I have one of his shirts from that season, so when he does score you can all think of me. Maybe loads of you could start a new thread about the inevitable goal what with ONE MATCH THREAD not catching on.
Spoke to Roccy and he too reckons the lad was quality. But that was some years ago now and recovering from an ACL makes this a gamble. One I hope comes off. Was he a shouter?
A quiet organiser if that makes sense. Craig Dawson was the same. He didn't shout at Stephen Jordan enough for my liking.
Sure sir bobby on wab t'other week said it were a couple of hundred quid a week short of signing first time ,in fact he definitely did.
