I have genuinely no idea if he will be a good signing for us or not but if we are basing it on where he has come from I give you Emanuel Fringpong - played for Arsenal in the Prem and the Champions league and totally useless for us

No matter where you are signing players from some turn out to be good signings and some total rubbish - Dannys track record in the past has been he gets more right than wrong ( excluding panic loans last season ) so lets see

Im just pleased weve signed someone - still need a few more though

A selection of Mad Mels signings when our ambition was promotion to the Premier League:

Jamie Robinson from Liverpool, Warren Godfrey from Liverpool, Dino Connelly from Arsenal, Colin Hoyle from Arsenal, Wayne Bullimore from Manchester United, Deniol Graham from Manchester United, Gareth Williams from Aston Villa, John Pearson from Leeds United. All, to a man, utter dog *****.

Brendan O'Connell - not everyone's cup of tea, but won the player of the year, played 240 Championship games for us and scored a total of 39 goals. Bought him for £50,000 sold him for £125,000. We got him from Burnley, lower half of the 4th division at the time.

Steve Davis - another playing at Burnley in the bottom half of the 4th division when we bought him. Struggled with injuries at first, but went on to make over 100 Championship appearances scoring 10 goals. In promotion season to Premier League he was looking as good a centre half as we've ever had until that little fcuker at QPR broke his leg.

Andy Rammell - we got him from Man Utd, but he never played for them, he'd been playing for Atherstone United at christ knows what level when they spotted him. He was 23 before he made his professional debut for us. Not the greatest striker that ever lived, but he'd scored a total of 111 league goals when he hung up his boots, 44 in the Championship for us. Only Bruce Dyer has scored more than that for Barnsley since Rammell left and a lot of those were at a lower level.

Charlie Bishop - signed from Bury in the league below. Started 124 games for us in the Championship. Could look brilliant when he wanted to, missed out on a big money move elsewhere and more or less threwh the towel in, but didn't play much after that.

Andy Saville - signed from Walsall who had been relegated to the 4th division. Scored 21 goals in 82 games for us in the Championship. Part of the side that just missed out on the play-offs thanks to that notorious Brighton goal in extra time. Scored well over 100 league goals at all levels.

It means **** all where a player comes from, it's how good they are that matters.

As I said in another post I do agree with your point CT but we've signed him so all we can do is get behind him and hope he can adjust the higher level of football and prove us wrong. If he works out we could have a very good player and thats the only view we can really hold at this point.

Err, wait until they've played a dozen games or so for us?

    That's usually my strategy.

Hit the nail on the head. This is the exact reason we should give the lad a chance

    The thing is CT....

... you have a go at the slightest opportunity. The fact that so many of your posts are negative is the reason that many dismiss them as being "just CT having his usual dig at the club/manager/player/owner".

You do bring up good points, but they are lost in the constant repetitive negativity (can I say that? is it even English?)

I know CT and he is a true BFC supporter who loves the club.

But he might be better sometimes thinking about what he posts, or rather how he words the posts.

I'll actually judge him when I've seen him play for us. However, I see this as a positive signing, a player that knew where the net was last season, can he do it for us? We'll see. But I'm puzzled by your attitude, first you castigate the club for no signings and then when we sign someone with a decent goalscoring record it's not right because of where he's been playing. I wonder if Southampton fans said the same about Rickie Lambert, so we shouldn't be looking to lower leagues and players that have performed there? We should just therefore look at folk on the way down - Farnham summed it up in one word - Frimpong!

I understand your reservations but I have seen him nearly every game this season and he is quality. Voted player of the year for the division while playing for a team that finished 9 th is no mean feat.
Not that cheap tho, we are due compensation as he is under 23, a fact Barnsley seemed to have overlooked as no offer has been made so far. He will not get clearance until the compy is agreed.

You're about to be very disappointed if you're expecting compensation.

Yes there is, the compensation rule is a FIFA rule, not a domestic rule.

Then you won't be signing him.
Article 20 of the FIFA rules on registration and transfer of players.

We've signed him, he's a Barnsley FC player.

Only time will tell who's right and who's wrong...

He is clearly a good player at that level. My concern, which I am alone in, is that the jump in standard will be too big for him.

His two best offers were Coventry and Barnsley and he can still come back to us so we are happy to let the tribunal decide if no offer made. Clearance will not be given to sign until agreement is reached. After first contact, 3 weeks is allowed for Clubs to agree then it goes to a tribunal who decide a fee.
