Isn't the speed limit on the A1 60mph?

4mph isn't going to make much difference to your journey time, unless you are thinking of breaking the law by speeding that is.

    Yep.

Although fair do's to some that let you in on dodgy junctions (joining the A1M can sometimes be a pig) unlike a little ***** in a black Fiesta or a White van that drives with the blinkers on.

Mind you, the truckers really p*ss me off when they try to overtake each other on dual carriageways like the A1, creates a reight tail back while they pick up momentum, although on the plus side you can see all the fat reps and merchant bankers in their Gerry saloons grinding ginger. Mwhahaha! :D

70mph on t' A1, except for any restricted areas (quite a lot of roadworks at the mo) which are signposted.

    RE: ok

    Aye, it's because it's a dual carriageway.

A roads apply to national limit which is 60mph for a single carriageway (like the A15) and 70mph for a dual carriageway (tut A1/A1M).

If yer travel on it anytime after 9 when all the sodding traffic has gone (particularly around the M18 junction which is allus a pig, yer can cruise along quite nicely at 70mph (and legally).

Only got a 1.4 so owt over 80mph and it starts screaming like a scolded cat!

in fairness some of your points are complete ********, and others a quite justified.

    1. Lorries are not easy to drive - for this reason you need a HGV licence. They suffer the effects of the wind and other weather conditions far worse than a car due to their size and shape. That is one reason they are involved in more accidents.

    2. If they sat at roundabouts all day waiting for an adequate space we'd have a lot more of those tailbacks you have been moaning about.

    3. If lorry A is travelling at 60mph before reaching a hill, then slows to 50mph when they begin climbing the hill (due to a heavy load), it makes sense for lorry B (carrying a slightly lighter load) to overtake at 55mph when on the hill. If they did not do this you would see a backlog of lorries very close together and struggling to make it to the top of the hill. As you may be able to work out, this would increase the risk of accidents involving lorries (which are usually the most likely to be fatal). They don't make a conscious effort to overtake slowly, they literally can't go any faster!

    4. Good point, you'd have to be a moron and completely incompetent (that doesn't sound like a lorry driver to me! ;))

    5. Point well made, unless it's a rest area keep it moving. I know sometimes they get lost but they do choose some shocking places to stop.

    6. Linked back to other points, you have to be stupid to be on your phone whilst driving a car. A lorry isn't very forgiving when it hits a car with a family in.

    7. Sometimes they take the backroads because that is where they are delivering to, simple as that. Maybe it's a cost cutting measure to save petrol? Not sure, but i can see the annoyance.

My biggest gripe on the roads in farmers driving their tractors down the main roads in rush hour!

Just to point out, i'm not a lorry driver and i don't know any lorry drivers. I used to be quite hot headed when driving but i've found now that i'm so cynical on the road that i anticipate moronic acts to the level that it doesn't bother me anymore. if anything i'm ready with me "told you so" comment.

you should try it, worked wonders for my blood pressure!
