If they fit our criteria of young and talented - then yes I genuinely think they would. The players backs his own ability and his agent will be telling him we're a stepping stone club to bigger things and thus a 5 year contract isn't going to be in his interests when in 2 years he could be moving on for infinitely more times money. That being said some 32 year old fat **** from Chester would clearly accept a 5 year deal. That's never going to happen tho.
A five year contract at what we were able to pay him or a 5 year contract at what Birmingham were prepared to pay him?
All the length of contract does is guarantee us more money when they are sold on. A player that follows in Houriane's footsteps won't be staying just because they have a longer contract, it just means that the club will get more money.
Obviously, but they're also not gonna tie themselve into a deal for 5 years if they feel they can get more money elsewhere. Why would you tie yourself to something for 5 years when you know if you perform well you can move on after 2 years, with bigger wages due to a lack of transfer fee. It makes no sense to tie yourself into a 5 year deal unless you're at a club where you feel you are at the peak of your career.
Do you think Swansea would have still signed Mawson if he was just starting the second year of a five year contract?
So many views and possible options ,no wonder clubs have to be meticulous in dishing out terms or accepting them, apart from the rich ones of course. One thing is certain it's the players marionetted by their agents that mostly have the upper hand and the contract terms can be quite tricky for all concerned
Except that the player can force his way out (see Winnall) and if an offer meets the clubs valuation, off you pop
