Having your keeper as your highest paid player is pretty mad. There are far more important positions on the pitch to utilise money more valuably imho. Centre half perhaps.
He was probably a good few players down the list when he signed, but we've obviously managed to ship out the higher earners and have not offered big wages to any of the new signings. Just because Steele is the highest earner, doesn't necessarily mean he's on mega bucks either, but Hill obviously feels the money would be better spread over a couple of players. I can't see Steele wanting to take a pay cut and, after all, his performances over the past few years have earned him the right to look for a decent contract. It would be a shame to see him go, but if he can get a contract with another club for 2-3 times what we would be prepared to pay then you can't begrudge him it. We'll probably try to offer him a transfer in January and might be able to get a bit of money for him.
