I think the reason Shearer was voted No 1 was because of the 260 goals he scored, plus he missed three seasons so he could have scored many more. Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast - Premier League's best goalscorers http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52011332
BBC also showing some memorable games from North of the Border. Tonight at 7-15pm on their Sports website, they show the 1991 Cup final highlights between Motherwell and the Arabs. Unfortunately Motherwell won it 4-3 after extra time. BBC Scotland to show classic matches to give you football fix https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52065537
And he played for unfashionable clubs although he had good strike partners in Chris Sutton Peter Beardsley and Les Ferdinand.
I’m from Yorkshire, so I need to eek out every penny of that licence fee.... That paid towards the ridiculous amount of money these three self righteous numpties were paid for that pile of dog muck.
If I was running the BBC, they'd have been first on the list to be furloughed. Mind you, if I was running the BBC, they'd be working elsewhere, so it wouldn't be an issue.
The BBC's obsession with the Premier League absolutely pees me off. At least back in the day, Match of the Day occasionally included games from outside the first division now we never get anything but effing PL. I've not watched MotD for 20 years, can't stand it.
I was surprised at that actually. I was looking at the BBC schedules for the mid 80's and discovered that MOTD had highlights from the top two divisions. I'd assumed it was always just the First.
Top 10 keepers now on BBC 1. Has to be Schmeichel at No 1 surely.? Seaman at 2 and probably Van de Sar at 3.???? Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast - Premier League goalkeepers http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52097923
I wish they’d stop churning this old crap out. The football seasons finished so they should have their pay stopped and stop trying to justify their wages. It’s times like these where mainstream tv should be earning their corn and not regurgitating this old twaddle.
Alternatively, they're providing some football content for the viewers who want to watch this sort of stuff. Just a thought.
The Lineker, Wright, Shearer programmes were originally made for the radio and were filmed at the same time. With the season being halted, the BBC producers must think it's worthwhile to show them, as they almost certainly get those fans who may be interested talking about the game. The programme that followed stirred some memories. Again it was Lineker introducing with Shearer picking three games from the Premiership years. He selected Newcastle beating Man Utd 5-0, then Blackburn losing 1-2 at Anfield the day they won the title and finally, probably one of the most exciting games ever re- Liverpool four, Newcastle three. A tad self indulgent because Shearer played in two of the games, but in the absence of live action, something for you to watch if of course you wanted to.
Must admit, I remember the Liverpool v Newcastle game as being one of the best games I have ever watched.
Agree DSL. Have to say I'd sooner watch any game involving the Reds than any other. There's a lot of archive footage on You Tube etc, but I miss MOTD which as well as Quest is a must for me on a Saturday night. Love any standard of football and have done since I was a kid.
