Hang on a minute... You are very articulate, and everything you say is spot on. I totally agree. What I would like to know is why the PC brigade all seem to work for local councils? You never see them anywhere else. Even the minority religons appear to criticise this daft idea. Why Christmas causes such unrest I will never know....
It's not just Christmas It's getting to the point where it is anything to do with showing pride for your country and traditions, and for those who have it Christian Faith. Kids can't sing barbar black sheep at school (a nursery ryhme for gods sake) and in some schools nothing is done for Christmas but English kids are learning about Muslim traditions and the basics of the Karan. The mind boggles
Hee hee, quality Either get a wide screen monitor, or moderate your views. Only kidding. Over here in Germany they recently had a visit from the Turkish prime minister (Erdogan or whatever his name is). He was complaining bitterly that children from Turkish families (many of them actually German citizens) had to be educated in the German language, and he called for 100% Turkish schools to be set up. Needless to say he got nowhere. When in Rome etc etc etc........
Wasn't it proved to be a load of rubbish that baa baa black sheep had been banned? It is in fact still allowed isn't it? Also aren't Oxford merely keeping the lights from diwali up as christmas lights as well which is why they are calling them winter lights as they are used for at least two different things? They are still having a CHRISTMAS tree and other CHRISTMAS things, the lights which are being used for two festivals are simply being named to include both.
RE: Wasn't it proved to be a load of rubbish that baa baa black sheep had been banned? http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article738220.ece Oxford again very interesting. Both of issues i mentioned may not be set in stone that they are banned, but the thought that English people want to change traditions just incase they offend other ethnic groups is totally pathetic - people like that make me ill (puke). Boot on the other foot with muslims for example do they give a **** about what we think about their beliefs, do they bend other backwards to please us - NOT A CHANCE. Can just imagine all this happening the other way round in Pakistan - NOT A CHANCE What idiots we have in this country and the people that try to justify it are just as galling
But it does happen the other way round doesn't it? I'm sure that SOME muslims do ridiculous things to try to avoid offending us when in reality it would not offend us one bit, we just don't hear about it because it doesnt make for interesting news. An example of where somebody has come up with stupid rules that ban muslim traditions when in truth it would offend nobody is that a scottish girls football team were forced to withdraw from the league because their players were mainly muslim and they were banned from wearing headscarfs in case it offended. Offended who exactly? The league claimed it was following a FIFA rule. By the way, I agree with you that the VERY small minority of people who come up with these crazy idea's (when they are actually shown to be true) are obviously not fit to be in the jobs that they are in as they have no common sense. But I think the Oxford one is most likely just being blown out of proportion by a reporter who wants to get his name heard. The fact that they admit they are having a christmas tree and calling it such shows that christmas hasnt been banned and they also clearly say that they lights are up for two months which shows they are being used for something other than the christmas period so perhaps calling them christmas lights would be a little silly when that isn't all they are.
Interesting post. I must point out that if Muslims do go out of their way to try not to offend us with something that is a way of life or tradition for them, i am total ignorant to the fact. Seroiusly, it would be interesting to see if anyone knows of anything.
Did you read about.... The moslem guy who got a job at Tesco shelf stacking, then refused to do it because he refused to handle alcohol. He was dismissed from his job, put a tribunal claim in, and lost. So there are people about with common sense. I think there was a link to it on here somewhere, but can't be bothered to trawl about.
SuperTyke Do you set out to be an irritating ****? You are by far the most irritating person on here, you always have to take the opposite point of view to what anyone else posts. This thing about Oxford and the lights. It is not allowed to be called CHRISTMAS, it may be called something else, but they are CHRISTMAS lights that were being talked about, not Diwali or a Winter Celebration or any other fecking PC balloxs. Unless you can prove that the story has been blown out of proportion , I suggest you believe what has been written. If it is proved not to be true then you can write to the Newspapers involved and berate them, not Kanecat.
Hi Mark As you know I don't very often get involved in arguments on here, but if I did you would be a good person to have one with because you respect other people's views even if different to yours (well except about KO!). It is with great regret that I have to admit that on this occasion I am unable to argue with you, mainly because I agree totally with what you said. Kanecat was merely stating her views and does not deserve to be berated for them even if some people do not agree with her. May I be the first to wish you a very happy Christmas.
go to the 'oxford inspires' charity website, click on winterlights and you'll see a few things jumping out at you. 1. The winter lights festival itself lasts one night. 2. The festifal of 'winter lights' ends before christmas but the christmas lights themselves will stay on throughout christmas. 3. Their own website advertises the 'christmas lights switch on' Then look at the actual quote from the council, who by the way are not the organisors of this evening of events (yes its one evening of events). I wasn't berating Kanekat, she didn't write the sensationalist story aimed at selling papers, it is those at the newspapers that should be ashamed of themselves.
RE: SuperTyke Thank you for that. You obviously understood the point i was trying to make. It seems that when you mention something like this on the site some people automatically jump on the defensive. It would be nice if people could feel that they are allowed to speak out and say this is wrong and not take the nauseating PC brigade way out. Be proud to be British and don't let our traditions get wiped out (england)
except for one slight problem kanekat Oxford council havent wiped out any tradition have they? They ARE having christmas lights and they are calling them christmas lights, just because a newspaper tries to incite racial hatred by making ridiculous claims doesnt mean they are correct.
