Considering a week in Chiang Mai, then a week down south somewhere for beaches....Ko Yao Noi? In December?
Well, I was there in 75/76 serving her majesty, and a beer (Charlie Carlsberg, Tennants or if you were lucky Tuborg) was 2np. A Gin and Tonic was 3np Ciggies were free if you wanted them. There was also some evil stuff called Cochinelli (sp?) and Ouzo which they couldn't give away to anyone that was sober.
Yah, it does look a bit like that, but we're going for our 40th anniversary and trying to decide whether to go full board or AI, with neither of us being alecarts. And the next time I buy a Rolls Royce, I'll remember not to ask what it does to the gallon!
Was in Phuket a few months ago and it's so crowded now. Every inch of land is being developed or has been developed - full of Russians and Chinese. Would probably go to Krabi instead now or somewhere a little off-grid but nearby like Koh Yao Noi or Khao Lak which also has access to stunning Khao Sok national park.
Koh Chang. Not as easy to get to as some of the islands due to no airport particularly nearby, but it's worth it when you do. Chiang Mai is nice but no beach as inland. Much cooler than most places in high season, especially at night due to geographical location. Bangkok is as utterly bonkers as you'd expect. Very full-on. Wouldn't recommend more than a couple of days there.
