I said at time it was not true, they would never have taken the job where it’s just a coaching role. It’s a part of the reason why they originally turned the Huddersfield job down and a big part of why they left at end of season.
It was actually just before Bobby Collins was appointed full time. It was also rumoured that after Burkinshaw turned us down we tried to get Lou Macari.
No sorry, youre not but I am. I'm still sure I read a story that Clarkey got the job after a team-mate had turned us down and recommended him - but clearly it wasn't Strachan. I think now it must have been Billy Bremner and I got my spiky little Scots mixed up.
That definitely rings a bell with me. I recall rumours of Billy Bremner being the No. 1 choice, after Jim Iley had left. However, it seemed the board wanted a player/manager at the time and Bremner (whose playing career was coming to an end at Hull City) didn't fancy doing that. Then, apparently out of nowhere, Allan Clarke suddenly became the favourite and within a week, the position was finalised and sorted out.
No we weren’t gonna sack Danny wilson, he even pledged his allegiance to us in the middle of the pitch at the last game of the season ayf hour later he was at Wednesdays
Just to prove I wasn't being facetious, this is the book I was given. The author was an aeronautical engineer, so I believed him.
My Dad's always been my hero so I believed him too BTW I believe in the Loch Ness Monster because I always try to poopoo it and rationalise it...but can't.
That area is my favourite holiday destination. We had our honeymoon there, as well as our Silver Wedding Anniversary & Pearl Wedding Anniversary for example.
