Possibly But so far they've only attracted one really big name, and that's Robinho. City have failed with pretty much every other big target they've gone for (and I don't class Barry or Santa Cruiz in that bracket) despite the ludicrous wage offers . I'm not sure why Terry would be the exception.
Every player has his price. You couldn't blame Chelsea for accepting £45m and you couldn't blame Terry for wanting to earn an extra 150k a week. But I just can't see him giving up Champs League football and disprupting what he is doing in a World Cup year. Top England players will already have one eye on that, especially as we are qualified, just about. I can see it ending in a pay rise for him at Chelsea, probably what it is all about. He has seen the wages that Ronaldo and Kaka are demanding and he wants some. Lampard will be next.
Lets hope he signs, the all the Chelscum fans can sit slack jawed in disbelief as a bloke takes the coin over some kind of mad idea that footballers care about anything other than money.....
GREED???? People on here talk about "Loyalty" and how footballers are "Greedy" well lets put it into perspective shall we?...... Imagine if you can, its Monday morning, You have got up to go to work, a job, which you may, or may not like. You get to work and the bos calls you into his/her office BOSS..@Good morning, How are you today?" YOU..."Fine, what do you want me for?" Boss..."One of our competitors want you to work for them, we dont want you to leave but we are prepared to let you go and see what they are all about etc" You..."Oh, Ok" Boss..."At the moment you have a 1 year contract with us and are on 8.50 per hour with some benefits" YOU.."Thats right, yes" BOSS..."Well they are offering you, 14.50 per hour, a minimum of 5 years work and more benfits than we offer, What do you think?" Is this where you turn round and say.............. YOU..."No thanks, its not for me, Im loyal to the company and dont want a larger pay deal, even though im nearing my 30s and my career may end anytime!" DO YOU HECKERS LIKE!!!!! Everyone would go, money is money and your loyal to your own family for godsake!!!!!!!
RE: GREED???? I see your point but to compare it to a working mans life who earns let say £30k per year just doesnt stack up anymore. Of course money is important to people, i work long hours to pay a mortgage and feed my family and if we're lucky we have a good holiday and a good family night out each month. The likes of John Terry are already rich beyond my wildest dreams and could probably not spend their wealth if they never earned another penny for the rest of their life. Top footballers are greedy, self-absorbed people with no link to reality or the fans and it has become obscene. To think they can now earn in a year what the average bloke earns in several years is wrong and Man City are taking the obscenity to a whole new level. Greed has killed the game.
RE: GREED???? Its not the players, its the chairman and agents!!!! Also the richer you are the bigger life style you have, I bet your mortgage is between 135k and 200k? Terrys is prob 1-3m, and an average car is a Mondeo Terry drives a Aston Martin. Its a different life altogether and I cant fault a man, whatever he does for his profession, to make as much as he can, I would!! If I was in his shoes, id take the biggest pay deal I could, get the cash in and make sure my kids get the VERY BEST in education, a good house etc. People say footballers are greedy, but in my head, Its not greed, Its jelousy in our heads that says it is!!! If it was you in his boots now, would you ask for a paycut in this economic climate???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
RE: GREED???? All things are relative i can see that but i'd be suprised if top players have mortgages, i can see them paying off their £3m houses within a year. They get paid vast fortunes for playing a game and i do think they owe a little more to the fans than what they give back. Yes if i was offered a massive pay increase i'd probably take it but as a multi-millionaire would i turn my back on the club that had made me ultra-rich, where i was settled and loved by the fans for the sake of an extra few million (very rich or slightly richer)? Right now as i am i dont think i would but unless i was in that situation i dont think i know for sure.
Regardless of how much money you are on... You will always listen to the suitors when they are willing to double your wages.
Anybody who thinks otherwise is in cloud cuckoo land.

RE: Regardless of how much money you are on... Maybe so but that doesnt change my opinion about the ethics of modern football. Its **** all to do with being in cloud cuckoo land but more to do with losing a game to greed and the power of money.
RE: GREED???? they are players who are settled where they are and reject the move, kaka in january is an example, there has got to be some will for the player to play for the secific club offering the money, i couldnt see John terry playing for man city, no champions league football would be a big factor, i agree with most of chesters points aswel, but there are alot of factors that get taken in consideration when a player thinks about a perspective move
I could spend it.
I'd need some triple gas turbines for my Wally for a start. Then of course I'd need an island to tie it to,Antigua looks nice.

RE: I could spend it. Island for sale? Take your pick: http://www.escapeartist.com/International_Real_Estate/Islands_For_Sale/Islands_For_Sale.html
RE: Now that is impressive research I think he's looking for a cut price deal - maybe an island in the stream or something similar.
