I understand they were watching him yesterday. If they come in with a big bid in January, it might not be a case of what he wants, club might just sell anyway.

Doesn't Roberts have a contract that expires at the end of June though?

If he does then some of the figures are miles off.

I can see why these clubs want him. They want the physical stats first that he offers and will look at try and add the other.

No it runs out next year, as a defender he's brilliant; tackling, heading and commanding his defence he's top quality and also he's one of the most all round physical players we've had in years, loads of pace and he's hard as a brick, but sometimes he can't pass for toffee but then again not sure thats needed in a Tony Pulis or a Sean Dyche side

We don't need the money , he's under contract - no brainier for me. We hold onto him - hopefully :)

I certainly can't understand why it was MacDonald who was left out when Roberts regained fitness.

I agree he's our 3rd best centre back but the point I was making was simply that he has shown enough to me that he can become a very good player in the not too distant future. All players make mistakes: Roberts made plenty last season, so did Mawson; and they've done alright since then!

Yes and I think MacDonald's proved since he came back into the side that he was more worthy of his place than Jackson

Wouldn't be surprised. I think we'll be in for Pierre in January anyway.

To be honest I think I'd rather we signed Pierre than long. Don't get me wrong I liked long in league one but he then went to mk dons and they were relegated. Pierre is young and has the potential to be better than long.

Didn't he only play a couple of games for MK? Don't think that's a reflection on him. I reckon he would easily be a stand out championship defender. Think Jackson has promise, but like Roberts and Mawson needs a season to fully show his potential.

If we lost Roberts, and I would be gutted as he really is one of the best defenders outside of the premiership (hence the interest!), then we just need to be prepared and have a replacement or two. £5m & Kevin Long plus whoever our scouting network have identified as the next best talent outside of top two leagues. I'm sure they already have a long list of players who could go on to be the next Hourihane, Roberts, Winnall.

Better to be in the championship next season at the start, minus Connor & Marc, than 3-5 million better off from transfers for each & back in league 1.
With the recruitment skills we have we can replace them if we have to, but easier to do that in the championship.

I'd love 'em both to sign new contracts, but I doubt that is realistic.

Not a shock and I reckon he'd be a first team regular there. Can see why Steve Bruce would like a player that's very similar to how he used to be. This day and age it's harder than ever to keep hold of our best players, so the days where someone reaches legendary status or gets a testimonial are going to be even more few and far between. Our better players we are lucky now if they sign a new contract with us because clubs with more cash than us turn their heads. Seems to be we sign a player, they do well, their original contract is running out so they get sold or leave. Be nice to be proved different with Conor.....

If true, it shows how good our coaching staff are at developing players and I would expect them to continue their good work.

Plus he's got one of the longest throws in football. Be ideal for West Brom.
