It was later on that same season when we'd lost to Marine. In April 1976, we won 7-1 at Workington. Our scorers were John Peachey 3, Peter Price 2, Bobby Doyle and John Saunders. One of the things that sticks in my mind from the game, Workington's ground had an advertising slogan on the roof of some covered terracing. It was from a local ice cream company and proudly boasted the slogan "We take some licking":)

She was my first love. Unfortunately, we split up due to her being into S & M and I wasn't.

One of my first games watching the reds that was, I was gutted at the age of 12 it's a wonder it didn't put me off football for life, apart from us being dire only thing I remember was the lines man getting dogs abuse from my mate as he tried to trip him up, all there was was a metal pole between the fans and the Lino! He must have been semi deaf by the end.

Also not sure if you can confirm this but the replay at Old Trafford against Rhyl, (to young to go to this) but in the early 70's fans at Oakwell used to watch game from which ever end we were attacking, moving round at half time. Anyway my mate who was older than me told me at half time they tried to move from the away end to the Stretford end for the second half. A Bloke on the gate would not let them round due to "crowd control" ( a crowd of just over 2,000 in a stadium which held 60,000 at the time) anyway after much arguing, the Reds fans barged past him and walked round. The punch line was as they went past him was "It's folk like you that caused the Burnden Park disaster" at which point everyone was in stitches.

    Whilst reminiscing
. Cambridge away FA cup. Pay on day. Away end full. About 6 on us approached one of the home fans turnstiles. Terrace at side of away end. One of the lads asked the turnstile operator if we could jump over for a fiver. He said yes. We all jumped over for that one fiver. Mixed with their lot, reight as rain.:)
Probably more reds along that terrace than their lot.
Another memory of that one. After the game the busses were lined up on the main road. I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many busses in one line.
SYP/Cambridgeshire police not sure which. escorted us all the way back to A1/A57 Worksop turn off afore dropping off.

Can’t confirm/remember we weren’t allowed round. But seems logical as we were stuck on one end. All game. Which was not routine, At the time.

Marine was the Spinksy dustbin game and provided a bit of a smile after a really crap performance. Anyone who remembers our former secretary will know that climbing on a dustbin outside the away dressing room and hurling deserved abuse at the players inside was slightly out of character. Really funny though. He outdid the Blandamours that night which is saying something
Workington away was great except every time the ball hit the roof of the stand you got showered in rust from above:)

We were stood at the Stretford End side of the player's tunnel against Rhyl and stayed there throughout the match, so I don't know of anyone trying to go from one end of the stadium to the other. In those days, the tunnel was in the middle of their main stand, not in the corner as it's been for quite a few years now.
