No need whatsoever Phil, he has been our most consistent player this season IMO.

Good news, seems like Danny is building his team, local lad too.

You've not added anything to the thread mate, ruined it. Whatever makes you tick though.

Would you like to point out where in this thread he has been picked on? Or are you suggesting any responses to him are doing so?

So you're telling me that before a game Steele should be battling with our forwards to win the ball? What on Earth are you talking about?

It's a pre-match 'warm up'. The clue is in the name.

You don't risk injuries in a warm up, I'd expect him to be challenging forwards for the ball in training sessions throughout the week but on a Saturday in the hour before kick off? Come on, there's criticism & then there's talking nonsense. You're doing the latter.

Next you'll be telling us that Dawson & Frimpong should be flying into 50-50 tackles at 2.30.

Why would you want to risk injuring your goalie and striker in the warm up?

    Bang on that Django!

Warm ups shouldn't push you to limits, otherwise we would be making use of the reserve goal keeper when he injures himself in the warm up, unless he has also been injured in a similar fashion. Hemsworth, you watch any Goal Keeping coach, from what you have described MCs warm up looks spot on to me.

Happy with this appointment, for personal reasons.

As a young lad playing for Hoyland Common Falcons, I got to meet Mark Crossley once or twice as he'd started out as a Falcon himself. Strangely, we were a nursery club for Nottm Forest, not Barnsley (they are now though, I think). And like Mark, I had a trial when I left primary school, at Forest, as did a selected few (the best of our age group). It was May of 1993. The legend that is Cloughie's last season in charge. In fact, it had been announced that week that he was to step down as manager. We watched them lose to Sheffield United as part of the 'Forest Experience' as it was referred to.
I didn't meet Brian. But Crossley was there as part of the welcoming committee, as was Carl Tiler. And erm, Gary Bannister.

I played like a moron in the 20 minute each way 'match' that we had. I wasn't offered a scholarship or owt. My best mate at the time, Chris Evans, was offered one. He never made it though, released at 16. Turned to drink in his later years, committed suicide last year.

So aye, I'm pleased with Mark Crossley's arrival. Great keeper in his time.

And if indeed this does mean Danny Wilson is here for the long haul, then Andrew is a happy boy. Just the news you like to hear after a 9 hour shift from hell. You Reds.

I find that beyond ironic HT purely based on your adoration of Butland who continually showed a lack of intensity in his warm ups and terrible handling. His warm up at QPR was especially bad where Dibble outshone him by a country mile.

Park Ave? Don't think so. He played for Hoyland Falcons.

There's much more to being a good keeper that making the odd spectacular save.

I think it is Steele's all round game he gets knocked for. Making poor choices on crosses and corners, and making basic errors and he has made plenty of those.

He has weaknesses which some of his fans selectively either don't see or chose not to.

He is far from being the best keeper in the Championship and the saves he makes could be made by plenty of other keepers at this level.

I only hope Crossley is a good coach and we see some improvement in Steele's all round game.

He did, but didn't start out as a keeper

Steele won't be with us if his all round game improves. Everyone can see his weaknesses it's just they are accepted in return for his shot stopping ability. He could improve massively on his command of the area and crosses but he isn't costing us goals because of it anymore than other players making mistakes. He does however make some tremendous saves regularly, I think his detractors fail to see those for what they are.
