That's a fair point about leaving space behind but he was certainly a lot more effective going forwards prior to our change in play. It just seems to me that with him, along with many others (Woodrow, brown) Struber is trying to turn him into something he's not and I really don't see why. He's proven that he's got the ability to contribute to our goal tally regularly with goals for himself and assists too and yet he's stuck in front of the back four. Woodrow proved he was a 1 in 2 striker up front last season but has been played in midfield for months.
I honestly don't understand why we seem hell bent on playing players in their weaker positions and then crying that we need players to play in their best positions. Why don't we play them there and get new lads in for the other places? Instead of burning on about needing a striker why aren't we targeting a number 10 instead of playing the best striker we've had for a few years there? Why aren't we letting mowatt go forward and bringing in a holding midfielder? Instead we moved mowatt back and brought in Ritzmaier.

Makes no sense to me but then I thought reindeers could fly

    1) Woodrow has played up top and in the #10 role the last 20 games. Probably a 50/50 split. If only he'd have buried the late chance yesterday to get his confidence going
    2) I'm with you on this. But Mowatt has been playing in a central two this season as we haven't exclusively used the diamond. With Styles alongside him he has opportunities to be more involved, especially as Styles must have been responsible for breaking up 80% of their attacks
    3) Ritz - no clue at all. A strange signing (but not as bad as some make out). I've mentioned it before but I thought Mowatt was ideal for left of the diamond

Unfortunately you can’t score goals without the ball unless you can force opp to kick it in their own goals :D

I think that Mowatt is one of those players who really does try his best in every game and that his game
" output" can look good or bad because of the reactions of the players around him.
I would agree, he looks ponderous and "one paced" and at times he struggles to get the required elevation
on some of his corners and free kicks. He is however one of our better players and so for the time being, I
can understand why he still gets selected.

I'd agree with that. He isn't exactly a midfield general, and certainly not captain material, in my opinion. Bit confused as to Dougall leaving, he was a decent holding midfielder. Would've worked that. Dougall, with Mowatt and Styles in front, then Frieser in the 10 role.
