    But...

Did Keith Hill bring in loan players on his first day (assuming the OP is correct)? Before he'd taken a training session? Before he'd had a chance to fully take stock of what he had available to him?

His first day was not into the season after the window had closed with us in the relegation places though was it?

And if you think MR won't have looked at Cov in depth prior to taking over and planned his moves early then you underestimate him.

Cov are in a desperate situation so he needed to act quickly which he has done!

The change at Oakwell was a change in the availability of greater support from PC. I'm sure if his legal troubles are over and he returns to direct funding of certain choices I.e. Garry O'Connor then Hill will also use this option as did MR and even more so, Davey.

    Re: Not really

Whitey, loaning a player twice in the same season is no different to extending a loan period so counting Trippier and O'Connor twice to fit your argument doesn't really wash.

As Redstar rightly says, MR also came in after the transfer window had closed whereas Pep had a full pre-season to make permanent signings. I imagine he took one look at the side that played against Watford and panicked - and who could blame him with gash like Special Kay and O'Neill Thompson in the squad.

I also think Trippier, McShane and Harewood were on loan with views to a permanent deal.

    Re: Not really

Been banging on about that on here for a while, Robins spending myth. Did he not flog Kozzie and Moore, the two highest earners at the club at the time?

Perpetuate a myth long enough and it becomes a fact. It does on here anyway.

Mark Robins will forever be the manager who over spent by £2m and changed the future of BFC and Pep is the man who is suffering from this.

I only stated what the top man at Oakwell told me and in all fairness i'd rather believe a person with the insight of the financial dealings than some of the drivel I read on here where some people will argue black is blue to justify there dislike of certain managers.

It's not drivel though it's the actual accounts. Some of the ***** Robins gets hit with on here is uncalled for, 6 away wins and 56 points. I'd take that now.

I was a fan of Robins and my referral to drivel was people trying to justify there dislike of Hill/Robins etc by posting absolute rubbish at times.

17 players brought in on loan by robins in two seasons.

    Miles Addison
    Cameron Park
    Danny Drinkwater
    Nile Ranger
    Michael Tonge
    Korey Smith
    Frank Nouble
    Lee Collins
    David Button
    Kallum Higginbotham

and in my opinion you can include Cotterill as well because signing a player for 2 months is in my opinion no different to loaning a player. That makes 11 different players loaned by Hill.

Robins 17 in two years, Hill 11 in just over one year.

Hill has used the loan market far more than Robins did in my opinion, so much so that as Jay pointed out we regularly had too many loan players in the squad last season and were paying the wages of players who we couldn't possibly play in the team because we weren't allowed so. I've also seen someone say that the difference is that Robins had key players on loan for long periods. Hill signed THE key player, central midfielder Danny Drinkwater on loan for a season. The team was essentially built around him and after we lost him Hill spent the next 6 months bemoaning that loss. That's how important loan players were to Hill last season and not just the short term ones either.

At the end of the day, the blame for us having so many loan players regardless of manager is lies at the feet of the board of directors who not only sanction these signings but essentially force them by their poor dealings when selling players and by failing to maximise revenue in many other ways as well. Robins wasn't to blame for that and neither is Hill.

I'd rather believe my eyes after looking at the accounts than taking the word of what somebody told me.
