who writes this crap - lets face it f obrien ogrady steele cranie and others are /were so good we should have been top 6 despite the club having a **** manager
The last time I got upset at a player leaving was back in 1984 when Ronnie Glavin departed. I'd prefer the likes of Cranie, Steele, Jennings & O'Grady to stay for the entire season. But if any of them go, they go. My support of the club & team isn't dependent on which players we keep.
Craig Hignett's departure - although inevitable - was gutting for me. He was a genius. But I agree. As shown with Butterfield, Foz, Bobby and now Jim going, I move on eventually.
32 next month. Already halfway to being bald, and the hair I do have left is going grey. Spackman's fault.
I tie my nasal hair to my pants, using it like braces. The older I get, the more hair I accumulate all over apart from the top of my head! AND IT'S ALL GREY AND WHITE!
It amuses me when folk believe everyone involved in our relegation battles are bad players because of where we finished. If they were all bad players we'd finish 30 points adrift. Cranie was certainly one of our better players, up there with O'Grady, Jennings & Steele. However he's a CB so you won't get as much money as you would for a striker like O'Grady & he's not got age on his side so he'll be worth less than Jennings. Ideally I'd like him to stay but if we could get a good league one standard replacement + a couple others in for his fee & wages then get him sold. He is in my opinion our best defender, he seems to get unfair criticism simply because M'Voto & Nyatanga formed a decent partnership for a short spell but that happens in football, it's not always the best individuals that make the best partnerships
I like Cranie and though i wouldn't be gutted if he went, i think he has more value than a nominal fee. The problem any decent player had last year (Ramage too) was that they were often surrounded with Kennedy, Wiseman and M'Voto for large parts of the season. Protected by a terrible midfield that often let players waltz straight through the middle of them. If you've one player not pulling their weight, you can compensate to a degree, 5 or 6 not doing so and you have major problems.
Exactly that. I'd pin most of the 'blame' on the midfield - which is why I'm unconcerned at them all leaving.
Over the years I've read some posts on here that eventually led me to join the forum as a participant. Claiming that we should let Cranie go for 50k or free 'just go get him off the wage bill' is such a post. What a load of absoloute tripe! No he's not worth £650k or even close to the but you've got to be looking for £250k for him. Obviously the relegations on his CV won't help bump up the price but he was a decent player in a very very poor team last year. Any team that has Kennedy, Wiseman, Woods, Dawson, Mellis and Frimpong in it was destined to fail! You could have had Suarez in our team last year and we'd have gone down.
