I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned or if this is the right thread but the guys from Caribbean Sports in Sheffield won a lifetime achievement award Richly deserved for what they have achieved
unusually for a British sportsperson, she raised the issue of the shirt before the tournament but then backed the ‘noise’ up with performances to match. I also believe the shirts have sold out twice and to date has sold more than the Jordan Pickford version.
Barry Hearn is on record as saying SD is actually quite funny and they played up to the interesting monicker.
Well deserved. Time for some recognition. In the end awards are a bit meaningless, but what people have done to achieve the are not.
Its ironic how we criticise the big clubs and organisations for driving a european super league where money and elitism counts and now we criticise SPOTY for not picking only winners. Especially for an award that is designed to recognise a personality and how it has connected with the wider public as its key criteria for winning over the actual sporting success itself.
Caribbean sports club chair wins Unsung Hero award https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-67588356 I saw the football team in the 80’s play at dearne in the Sheffield and hallamshire league … 4 bus loads of fans and a Caribbean party in the stand! What a sight never seen anything like it at the time
Personally I'm not particularly bothered who wins. But Earps won because she got voted for. Therefore she is SPOTY. End of. Can't see what the fuss is about. Nice that Red Rum won back in the day - reight personality!!
