Easy: Shilton, Cafu, Stam, Maldini, Carlos, Garincha, Gascoigne, Platini, Giggs, Ronaldo & Pele. There you go, Polyveldt Pete.
Yes. I love Bingo. Five & one; twenty six. On its own; Jay. Two fat ladies; those two lasses who sit at the front of the East Stand & pester the players at the POTY dinner. BJ from Grannies with no teeth. Gala-tastic, mate.
Dave Watson type injuries are few and far between so would be a poor excuse to use. He's not ready for regular premiership first team football. He'd not even be a regular in all 24 championship sides. He should do what Stones did and show loyalty by signing a contract, then getting more games under his belt and then leaving abit further down the line.
Whether he'd be a regular in the championship doesn't really matter because he'll have his contract and if he's not ready for that league they'll just loan him to league one instead. In an ideal world he'd sign a deal with us but he's probably got an agent & a family in his ear telling him to take the chance whilst it's there. It's not just injuries that can **** up a career, lots of players show early promise but turn out to be early developers & never push on. What if he signs a 3 year deal with us & his career doesn't get going & he ends up stuck at this level or lower? It's best all round for him to go as long as we get a good transfer fee
Not very likely to happen and i'm sure he's enough confidence in his own ability to know that if he stayed with us it wouldn't be the last chance he'd ever get at a big move.
It would be if he picked up an injury like Luke Potter did. The difference in wages between staying with Barnsley and moving to a Premiership makes a decision like this a no brainer. It's not like he'd be increasing his wages by £500 per week, he would be signing a contract that would make him a millionaire. He needs to just look at Luke Potter and then John Stones, who many on here argued would have been better off staying with Barnsley for another year! It works for the club too. We were just about to agree a big money deal for Butterfield until that nasty get from Leeds took him out.
I do laugh when people say he should stay. It's easy to say that as a fan but if they were in his shoes they'd definitely go. I love Barnsley but I'd snap someone's hand off if they offered me 5 or 10 grand a week in his position.
How do you know? Johnson himself has said Holgate's an extremely confident lad & nothing phases him so for all we know he could already be playing to the maximum of his ability. It's all if, buts & maybes & that's why I don't blame anyone in his situation from jumping ship. I'd also expect Holgate to improve but it was only a few years back we were rejecting offers from City for Jordan Clark & he never fulfilled his potential
My initial thoughts on this last night were that £1m was a bit low, unless it included lots of future clauses benefiting us. I then had discussions with other fans and they were of the opinion that £1m was a good deal for him, considering his inexperience, the level he's playing at and the fact he's only got 12 months left on his contract. So I started to sway more towards their opinion. However, now I've seen that there are supposedly several top flight clubs after him, big clubs at that, I feel we'd be daft to take such a low offer.
^^^Some very good posts, in my opinion. I will hold absolutely bugger all against Mason for wanting to take an opportunity to join a big club on great money on a long term deal. He's never done or said a bad word against the club for all I know, and his ability has got him noticed. Scouts were always going to keep track of our youngsters after developing Stonesy. It's time that our owner/board got a proper deal. Otherwise, what's the ******* point?
I still think he should sign a new contract, if he's good enough he'll still be signed by s club higher up the pyramid. After all the time, effort and development the club have put into him it seems a fair deal to me. It's the posturing of players, usually on the say so of agents that really hacks me off.
In your eyes, our eyes, as supporters of BFC, aye course he ought to. But maybe he looks at the club and their treatment of loyal players and thinks "**** that".
Players either too old or deemed too good for Bunny & Ronnies U18 academy. Yet for whatever reason not selected in the first team.
I thought the roumor was a load of ****** at first but now he is being linked with quite a few big clubs makes me think the could be some truth in it. My earlier comment of 'ill drive' was a little disrispectful to mason. He is a very promising defender and hasnt looked out of place in this league. Id like to see him stay him and bree in same squad would make good competition for rb. But if he wants to leave id rather we get a million with add ons yhan wait a year when he is even more proven and get peanuts at a tribunal. Would like to see him loaned back for the season too though.
This. Good players are always going to leave us. We just need to not be violated by the buying club. If these reports are right, we're getting for Holgate what the skullcrushers got for Jordan Slew about four years ago. Loathe Sheffield United or loathe them, they always hold out for a decent fee. We must do the same, else we may as well lock the gates.
How much did they get for Chris Morgan's love child, Harry Maguire, a bang average lump of a centre half who was a L1 lump at the time? I'll be very disappointed if, with several Prem clubs circling we end up with sore arseholes again. Each mistake like that hammers another nail into the coffin of 'hope' as a reds supporter. I would for example, accept these £27 matchday prices if my club were getting proper deals for players. Fact is though, it's because we don't get good deals that we supporters have to pay £27 at L1 level.
