IMO: There has to be a genuine belief that we are going to challenge. Otherwise you get apathy - Yeah we can win a game, but it's just one win. It doesn't mean that much. It’s just 3 points on the board to our target of 50. There should be no target other than as many points as we can accumulate. Whereas if there's a belief within the fanbase that we can genuinely compete at the top of the division, every point is vital. People turn up. People make noise. How do you create belief within the fanbase that we are the real deal? You start with the club itself. All season long we've been hearing everybody playing our season down. We're "cutting our cloth accordingly". We're "a small fish in a big pond." We're already "overachieving". "Staying in the division will be an achievement." Well that's extremely commendable, but fans are impatient. They want instant success. The club know that. Of course they do. Keith's trying "educate" the fans about being patient and doing things “the right way”. That's also commendable. The unfortunate fact is that fans by their very nature are impatient. It’s not Keith’s fault. He’s working within the means the club have. The club need to strike a balance between setting realistic expectations for the supporters so as not to disappoint them to the point where they're baying for heads to roll, and giving them some hope of success in some form. I'm not saying that this season the club have made a mistake in not doing this. This season has been a massive restructuring operation both on and off the field. Unfortunately we'll be chalking this season off as also-rans. That's just the way it is when you bring in a new management team and start building a team from scratch. It’s not great, because fans want value for their ST money. What I'd like to see from the club in the close season is some ambition. It's difficult because ambition seems to be synonymous with spending cash. People constantly call for "box office signings" and "proven goalscorers" but was Brian Howard a box office signing? Was Craig Hignett? Was Adam Hammill (really) ? No, but they all finished top scorers in their respective seasons with decent amounts of goals given their positions on the pitch. We're never contenders for promotion. We are perennial “relegation fodder” with the bookies. But it's what makes those good seasons we do have now and then that extra bit special. Hill will unearth more untapped, discarded or forgotten talent I'm sure of that. The club would do itself a favour however, to play us up more. I don't know how it can be done. I'm not a marketing expert. I just believe that that would be a good place to start building the attendances. Create a buzz round the town, in the Chron, on here etc. On the other hand, starting the season with 10 straight wins would have an even greater effect than all the above. But which is easier?
If you are fetching vaz taty up then lets look at keith hills performance with him. - Constantly berated him - even when he was magic he said he didnt do his job right - dropped after playing quality - berated for leaving us --- and then berated for been on the bench at west ham in his first game I think we saw just how big keith hills ego was there! And im chuffed to bits for vaz te in shoving hills comments up his arse by pushing on again and being quality for west ham! If they fail to go up this year a premier team will come in for him without a doubt.
what about all other managers in championship then that told him to **** off cos he wasn't worth chancing. or is it just a cheap dig at hill again
