Just walking round the Etihad yesterday there were various 'arty' type things that even made a new ground have a link to the past. On Joe Mercer Way (that bridge) the floor is painted sky blue, roads signs show what its named and there's a tiled mosaic of the man himself that 'random' people were taking pics of. Just shows that with very little expenditure and a bit of thought the new stands can have a link to the past and showcase some of the local talentented people's work.

If I was a man city fan and were able to purchase a miniature version of the mosaic I would!

Fingers crossed the new era employee wise is the start if a new era with all other neglected areas.

Surely this would be feasible at Oakwell? It would get the club out into the local community and improve the dull concourses (match day experience etc). Surely engaging with the local community and improving the experience for fans are a couple of concepts that the club want to address/improve. Kill two birds with one stone. Im sure our fans/especially kids in the family area, would be more inspired by a picture montage/mosaic of fans/players/artwork etc, than a grey breeze block?

Done on laptop. Not sure if you can do it on tablet or phone. Just search "Photo Mosaic".

Thats just a free on-line jobbie done with half a dozen copied pictures of Bobby, one picture of Luke and a black n white 80's team photo. The more pictures you use to make the mosaic with, the better it will look;)

Crop of the head shows the little pictures ;)

You can get free downloads for the computer that produce great results , give it a go:D

We've got a meeting, hopefully next week, to give a presentation to Flicker on the very subject. We have some ideas from looking at other clubs do and speaking to families etc and ideas from Trust members. The more ideas the merrier.

We've also had an architect draw up so plans for an enclosed family zone at the north end of the East Stand Lower. You could do a similar thing at the other end of the concourse to create a bar area and show games before / after the match. The areas could be used by the club for other purposes then also e.g. classrooms for the academy.

The original idea was to create project for fans to get involved in to fund raise to get first the family area built and possibly the other one. I showed the Lindley's manager the plans and she thought they could contribute. Maybe if there are any builders etc in the area that are Barnsley fans who could help with the build we could get this done fairlly cheaply.

IT will be interesting to see what the appetite is from the club given the reason changes and what Flicker has been talking about to see if something like this can fly.

I think pedal for pounds is a great fund raising idea from Huddersfield Town and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. 300 fans keeping fit cycling around Yorkshire/or to away games, wearing the clubs colours, good publicity, and more significantly has raised nearly £1 million for Huddersfield Town Academy and Yorkshire air ambulance. Being a very keen cyclist i would love to do something like that but although i am a huge fan of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, i am not a massive fan of Huddersfield Town.

We could call our initiative 'Pedal for the Family Stand Builder'. Would anyone on here be up for doing the Trans Pennine Trail coast-to-coast? (Southport to Hornsea). We could even make the charity up to benefit the club more. The Hassell/Steele/Mcnulty wage-cut food bank fund? Say for example we raise £1,000 - we would then give a couple of cans of beans to the wage-cut fund which would help the poor buggers get by. This would then enable the architect/builder to chuck £999 towards a sculpture of Keith and Sidney (possibly swimming) and dolby surround sound speakers with Flicker constantly saying the word 'Family', to go in the family zone.

Just need a few (200+) Barnsley FC supporting cyclists now. Im in.

I like the idea of an enclosed family area but I don't think the East stand is big enough to take an enclosed area inside the concourse at both ends, I think it would make the middle section with the vast majority of people in it too small. It would be brilliant for a corner building like the one between the ponty and east to be built at the north end though to have a much bigger kids section in it. The benefit of that would be that it would have an upstairs which could take the kids directly to the family stand if it stays where it is. would improve the look of the stadium and improve the atmosphere as well by further closing in the stadium and holding the sound in a little. Would a child friendly exec area work? If the stand was identical to the other one it would have a row of exec boxes, I wonder if there would be demand for people to pay the extra to watch the game from inside with the kids.
