The fastest I’ve ever seen Herbie Kane run was when he turned and ran off the pitch at the blow of the half time whistle. There is zero passion, no ***** given. It’s an absolute disgrace. I’d love someone to tell me that he and Russell are amongst the best midfield players in the league after watching that half. Not in the same league as the opposition and Portsmouth are honestly not that special. I had hoped the defence would be just about sufficient with what we have in front of it - but needed to see it tested against a better side having had time to settle. Well they have had time. Lots of time on the training field with a head coach who was a centre back at a decent level. Tonight we are playing a decent team. Only decent mind, not exactly scintillating. And we are getting absolutely pumped. If they’d wanted to keep up the pressure rather than pass it round in front of us taking the piss, it could easily have been six or seven by half time. What has been done to the team defensively is completely inexcusable. They sold Mads for a lot of money, decided not to sell Kitching under an y circumstances- and then did sell him when it was too late to do anything. The only replacements have come from non-league and the French lower league, and a lad on loan from Rotherham who couldn’t get in Leyton Orient’s team last season. In McCart’s case he was very clearly brought in as a panic to replace Kitching in the full knowledge he would be going. It isn’t like we didn’t expect the weakness to be central defence. Even before Kitching left. We’ve got away with it in games by having a good goalkeeper (not that he’s covered himself in glory tonight), and the fact we’ve played woeful teams. Even the 2-0 wins have had concerning moments of gifting chances or at least momentum and territory, against teams who lacked the quality to do anything with it. Any half decent side in this league will turn us over. The side that we beat 7-0 in a bit of an anomaly would probably rip us a new arsehole now. There will have to be some questions answered at the next fans forum. Not spending money is one thing, if they need to balance the books, ok. Not bringing in anyone with anything like suitable experience was absolutely criminal. They made the same mistakes that were made when Pinnock and Lindsey were replaced with Bambo Diaby and Mads. We had to sign a pretty average Austrian with some professional experience to come in and sort it out. January is a long way away and I don’t trust that it will even be addressed then.
He's no charisma either mate. Reminds me of Steve Parkin. You have to inspire players. Especially half decent, young League 1 players. He isn't up to it. I know I'm fickle but my mind's made up. He might get us in the Play-Offs but he's gash.
Their better tactically, were all over the place. Looks like we've got 11 players on the pitch but not necessarily in the right places.
Kane and Russell can’t play together against better teams. Any half decent coach should know that. They are both so immobile that they can be passed around. You have to split them against decent teams.
