I think I’d agree with that back 5 after the games I’ve seen so far. Gent looked a little more comfortable tonight, Lofthouse looked very good when he came on, even though he was out of position.
You'll have to video them, the majority of us can't get to watch him train He's certainly got the majority of fans willing him to do well.
Would agree with that. He's done alright in the two games other than getting the ball in the back of the net. A goal or two and some confidence will do him the world of good.
It was a tough watch due to buffering issues but I thought we were the better team by some distance & deserved to go through. Silly mistake by Yoganathan but I suppose he’s in the team in a cup game to learn & that’s what he’ll have done tonight. Watters looked really sharp until he got a chance & then he went to pieces but we were far too good for them when Phillips & Connell came on.
We played in this competition, especially in the second half, as though it was as important as a league game. Which makes a change. Some decent football played by us tonight. If we had even half a decent strikeforce we may well be a serious contender in our league.
Worthy winners in the end. But we certainly made it hard work by not closing the game out. At times we make some lovely moves, and then when under no pressure, we just close our eyes and give the opposition the ball. It's absolutely schoolboy stuff. A lot of work required to make this team tick to challenge, and especially up top, we can all see it, surely the club does and are hopefully working to address it. If we finish the window with no additional strikers, then we may as well not bother this season.
We're definitely work in progress, but I thought it was a thoroughly deserved victory. Especially pleased for our two Americans & Max Watters.
Entertaining tonight. Barring the pen, liked the look of Vimal. Don’t think anyone had a bad game tbh. Not hopping on this watters being good train just yet. I think he’s crap. BUT will happily eat humble pie if he starts firing. Strikers needed but we look like we have intent going forward and not sideways or backwards. Into the next round and hoping for a big cup tie, but on to the league next with Lincoln away. You reds.
Absolutely dominated Wigan more or less from the start. Scandalous that the game ended 1-1 and I don't think we should pile on Watters too much for that miss. For anyone that didn't see it he got the ball on his chest virtually on the six yard line with only the keeper to beat. As it came down he snatched at it and the ball was going wide before a defender got a boot on it - could have gone in off him, but it didn't. It was a sign of a striker out of luck, out of form, out of confidence. I think/hope he will come good though. The funniest thing for me was the way Wigan played for penalties as that second half wore on, especially towards the end. They knew it was their best chance of winning the match but, of course, they didn't know how good our new keeper was . Four brilliantly taken pens for us, one soft one straight at the keeper who was standing still from Luca. They had two really well saved by Gaga and that knocked the stuffing out of them. Thoroughly deserved win and I've been impressed with what I've seen these last two games. Both should have resulted in wins in normal time. Once we get the goals flowing there will be no stopping this team.
