Good result in the end. Defence looks so fragile though, transfer window can't come soon enough. Jalo has to start with Cole next match based on todays performance. Thought lightning was striking twice with another unpunished late tackle on Watters after netting. Exactly how Macatee was injured.
They came out & had a real go at us but to be fair we didn’t crumble under the pressure & as they faded we stepped it up. Once we got ahead & they had to take risks they had next to no chance with the pace we brought on
Entertaining game which we eventually deserved to win. Plenty to pick apart, because we are a side whose results seem to keep its head above water despite - rather than because - the use of personnel and tactics
3rd November 2021 We went 1-0 down to Derby in the Championship at home. Came back to win thanks to, wait for it... Adeboyejo and Leya.
I'm delighted with this result and so glad I got to see a brilliant second half performance. Shame we can't do it for the whole match, but never mind. I was impressed with our pace as the game went on and we actually overran Reading at times. Maybe we were the fitter side, when they looked it earlier on. All three goals were brilliantly taken but I would like to go against the grain here and give some plaudits to the defenders. We defended well the more the game progressed. Sure, they managed to get round us too often (especially down the left with Styles never bothering to put a tackle in) but once the ball was in the area we dealt with it very well, mostly. There were times, in fact, when we had at least two defenders on the ball to clear it. Good, solid defensive work in my opinion although, as others have said, we weren't so good at dealing with aerial challenges, especially earlier on. I was praying for the final whistle because it looked likely that if they got one back then they would get another. But no - the lads held out and, after all the flak they've been given this week (plenty by me as well as most others), this was a superb result. Reading are not a bad side despite their league position but we were just better. I hope to be at Oakwell next Saturday to see another three points safely banked.
Much improved performance and deserved three points. I was particularly pleased for the three lads who scored today. They've been on the receiving end of a great deal of criticism, so I'm dead chuffed for all three players. MDG was my MOTM.
I'm not Collins biggest fan but he deserves credit for the second half performance where everything went right.
Another point I forgot to add when I posted a few minutes ago. The passing was much better than of late. We actually started pinging long diagonal balls for players to run on to, like last season. Everyone hates the little ten yard triangles that get us nowhere and I particularly detest watching midfielders turn and give it to a defender because they can't take the responsibility themselves to make things happen. Much better today though so no complaints from me from about the 20th minute onwards. It could have gone the other way of course but it didn't because we were the better side. Long may that continue
