Thought Kane and Connell were both poor by their standards. Their midfield ran through us at pace and at will.
I kind of liked it, to be honest! Imagine if it had landed. You've got to shoot your shot, as the kids say.
Devante Cole is bone idle and Collins should have hauled him off at halftime... Cole ran his legs off tonight. Just a word about Donovan Pines, he gives me the shivers, I hope he's a fast learner because he's very suspect at the moment... Wasn't he Man of the match?
Can’t go along with this narrative that we sat back at 2-0 up. We only got nervous when we gave them a silly goal to make it 2-1. At 2-0 there was one occasion where we had Connell sprinting from midfield to join all of Phillips, Cole & McAtee in a 4 man press on their keeper & two defenders. If anything we should’ve chilled out a bit at 2-0 & allowed for them to come on to us & try to counter them but because Bolton had shown nothing for an hour I think our lads collectively got carried away & tried to kill them off. Their first goal comes from us pressing high & us arguing over the award of a free kick rather than retreating into position & being ready for a quick free kick. In the end Bolton were full value for a point but at 2-0 up I felt we were more likely to get a third than them get one back.
You must be absolutely having a laugh with that comment. MDG proved yet again that he can't defend for toffee - miles behind his man and out position for the scrambles they almost scored from both before and after their first goal. Totally gave up tracking his man Victor for their first goal - almost like Tom Kennedy at Boro when we were relegated. Was brushed aside like a fly by his man who crossed in the lead up to the penalty incident too. Jeez, don't people actually watch how bad this guy's positioning is and how far he is of the pace when he gets turned. The only thing he did all night was to execute Collins excellent plan to pressure their pivot, number 4, and create the block for McAtee to score. When Bolton's less than bright spark manager finally worked out that our weak spot is when the ball is lumped at the right centre of our defence, MDG was (yet again) taken to the cleaners. We've got a point out of that because of one man and one man only and that's Liam Roberts.
I stand by the Cole statement, because he was bone idle last night and regarding man if the match, I would imagine whomever makes the choice really struggled to pick one.
I think the real test of our capabilities and mental approach will be how we bounce back / move forward. We seem to have a team now to get a play off spot at worst and still chance of automatic. Off days will be our downfall if we dont give everything in effort, application and mental focus. Its down to us so now lets see how good we really are. We can still keep the pressure on.
