I'd be interested to hear how it goes in Sweden, if you have the time and inclination. We've read tons of stuff on the Italian experience courtesy of @Tekkytyke and more recently snippets from a US poster (who's name escapes me). Any info from a country doing it differently would be welcome.
I think any competent Government would’ve done better to be honest. Us, America & Sweden have handled this dreadfully. For weeks medical experts & doctors from Italy were telling us we had to lockdown otherwise we would end up in the same boat as them but our Government did nothing. All we got was talk of herd immunity. Even today you can fly in to London from various cities in China, from Rome, from New York, from Madrid & even from Tehran. They allowed Cheltenham to go ahead even though all other Western European countries were cancelling events or at least playing them behind closed doors. They allowed 3,000 Atletico Madrid fans to travel to Liverpool for a football match when they weren’t even allowed in their own clubs stadium as Madrid was one of the biggest hotspots for the virus in Europe. We had an extra 3 weeks to prepare than Italy & completely wasted it. Our trajectory is now worse than them. How is that even possible? Boris deserves the majority of the blame, instead of stressing how serious this was from the start he was joking about it & talking about shaking hands with Coronavirus victims, as leader you’ve got to set the tone of how dangerous this virus was & he for me is a big reason why people were still out boozing & why thousands were going to the coast the weekend before our ‘lockdown’. At the end of this he should be on trial for the lives his Government’s inaction has cost.
