Absolutely bonkers this thread. He’s been great for us. If he could get in a Leicester team or not is irrelevant. In fact, it will probably help us if he can’t. We are lucky to have him.
Reminds me of the debates that used to go on about Ray Mchale, good and essential but tend to get overlooked because they make stuff simple.
Are you being serious? He’s a calming influence and has more time on the ball than anyone else in the team. He might misplace the odd pass but not as many as most of his teammates - and his presence makes others better around him (such as Mowatt). We’ve bypassed midfield a fair bit recently, mainly due to the opposition. We would be a poorer side without him and if we don’t get him in January, either by loan extension or permanently, you will see that. Bizarre post.
The wins won’t come as easily and frequently if we don’t retain his services in January. Class player.
Said to my Son today that James isn't as all conquering this time round and his reply was no but his influence and control were the reason the midfield now look solid..similar to Solbauers effect at the back..got to say I agree with that..
Who gives a toss about what game time he gets in a higher league? He's not premier league quality. But he's good enough for us for 3/4 of a game.
No coincide were 3 points off the play offs and we have a player like Matty James in the middle. Yes he might not of had his best game today but he does so much off the ball that people don’t see. 95% of football is off the ball in this 95% is when he has his biggest influence reading the game and talking to others. You’d need to be spending some serious money (of which we dont have) to get a player to come straight in and achieve what he has. He’s allowed Mowatt to play in a more advanced role which has lead to him chipping in with goals aswell.
He's played a huge part in our run of wins since arriving, seems far happier with us than at Leicester, seems to be the ultimate professional and I bet we can't put a price on what he brings to the club off the pitch with helping other players with advice.
Steady on mate, that was my first car.... Back to the topic, today wasn't his best performance but he is a quality player and our run of results with him in the team surely isn't a coincidence.
Nobody does the ugly side of the game better than matty James plus i can imagine he’s a top bloke to have in the dressing room and on the training pitch.
We don't seem to be any more sophisticated as a fanbase than the "Ray McHale is a ******" days. Yes, we did actually sing that to our own player during a home defeat to Norwich in 1981/82. The dolts could only see the contribution the other midfielders, Banks, Glavin and Barrowclough, made.
Matty has a calm quiet influence. His passing is very good. Alongside his performances on the pitch he will be a great example to the younger players. At the same time we are giving him the opportunity to play the game he clearly loves. Keeping him here and fit Is pivotal you our season. The more he plays the better he will get. In reality given his injuries it would be a massive gamble for any club to offer him a long term contract and luckily for us we have benefited from that.
Unbelievable player for us. Intelligent on and off the ball, not to mention what his experience brings to the changing room
Good player for me & one I’m happy to keep. I think sometimes fans go over the top but that happens whenever anyone has a good game or two. Pass percentages won’t be that great as we play the percentages a lot more & James & Mowatt will stick balls in the channel that the opposition often have to clear for a throw or corner & it gets us higher up the pitch
Other players contributed to those wins that also get slated on a weekly basis but that’s okay. It’s a team effort and not one player that won those games. Not a dim comment but my observation. It’s also worth noting that he was subbed off mid second half in all those games you talk about
