I don't think the team is playing that well in general and Watters is feeding off scraps. We're lucky that we generally have better individuals than our opponents so can get away with it. Hopefully things will gel soon and we'll see the best of our players.
I also don't see a lazy player. He looks very low on confidence, but he does a huge amount of legwork. Just a lot of it is off the ball so doesn't get noticed. Not tearing around after the ball when we're not in possession doesn't mean lazy. It means that a player is sensible enough to understand when he'll need that energy. That's especially important for someone like Watters, who is exceptionally quick over short distances. He really hasn't been very good this season but I'm not going to write him off. Cosgrove was horrendous yesterday as well, but his stats suggest he's actually a very good footballer.
May I add..players like Watters and Cosgrove .. infact any of the squad that have come from a higher level to us, wouldn't be here if they were the finished article and not in need of a bit of TLC.
If i was to say that your statement and the title of your thread is harsh is a massive understatement. You really ought to try and be more patient when expressing an opinion.
Good point...of course its completely on Max (or any other player) if he reads stuff on here. If anything it should motivate him ro prove his critics wrong. However, call me old fashioned but I would still maintain that the title of this thread and the OTT comment on one of our own is not the way we should be supporting the players. It's not really necessary and what's more it doesn't achieve anything. Apart from anything else it's just not very nice. At all.
Absolute rot. One of the worst strikers in our history? How long have you been going because I can think of plenty worse.
I absolutely draw the line at personal abuse. Never any need for that, however bad a player is. However I do think fans are entitled to criticise a player's performance. I've been one of his biggest critics. Apart from his one goal, which was a great finish, I haven't seen anything from him whatsoever this season. Personally I'm disappointed Marsh was sent out, as I'm absolutely convinced he would offer more than Watters right now. Everyone wants him to come good, but as long as he's not performing, for me fans have the right to comment on that. That's not hypocrisy, that's just the game. IMO it's absolutely fair to criticise a player when they're rubbish, and praise them when they're good.
After reading your post I apologise for my earlier post suggesting that Watters is a challenger to Dave Regis's position as all-time worst striker to play for Barnsley. This was clearly unfair on Watters, nobody could be remotely as poor as Dave was; Watters can stand up and clearly has a pulse.
If only we’d had chance to watch him last year and see how poor he was before signing him this season
100% agree ,I'm not one for being negative, however I am disappointed that Marshy is strutting his stuff elsewhere, when he is good enough to be in front of a striker that is not in form ,irrespective of their previous stats.
Maybe the decision to send him out was as someone else suggested, that it wasn’t a reflection on him in the pecking order but they believe him playing regularly and for longer periods in a competitive league will get him upto speed quicker? If he comes back in a month and rejoins hitting the ground running everyone will say it was a good move. Time will tell.
