I definitely agree with a lot of that. I recall he gave the ball away in quite an important match last season…possibly Bolton….which led to a goal and I can recall a few more. I think he blows really hot and cold, but on the balance, I think he’d be an asset to the squad. He’s very hard working with a great attitude. I like that. I just don’t see why he would end up at Bolton rather than us, that’s all.
As I said, he's very likeable. But I think we can do better. I'd personally prefer Phillips playing more centrally, rather than having to go out to the right like when McAtee played, and two proper forwards. McAtee plays between a number 10 and an out and out forward, but I think we'd be better with a forward playing on the shoulder of the last defender and Phillips in that No 10 roll. Far fewer opportunities for a player like McAtee to be giving it away in midfield with that line up too, which Phillips just doesn't do.
I don’t know if I’d be quite as harsh as you but I think along the same lines. I think he lacks footballing intelligence. Seems to berate others for not passing to him when it’s not on, gets caught offside a lot, does silly one man presses & as you say gives the ball away in daft areas. On the other side he gives his all, scores the occasional stunner & wears his socks round his ankles which always seems to make a fans favourite. I was surprised how many thought he was good enough for the championship & I’m not surprised it looks like another season in league one for him.
I actually think there are stats for that, even at league one level mate! I'll try find it out as I do agree with you, though just not as many. There's certainly stats around stuff like this in the premier league..!
Radio 2 does. The station is full of them. Vernon Kay, Sara Cox, Mark Radcliffe and Paddy McGuinness.
I'm not that fussed about him tbh. I liked him, he did a decent job, but not gonna be beefing he signs for someone else, he wasn't that good.
I think a big factor in why people rated him was down to his attitude and work rate, whilst being only being on loan. How many times have we seen loanees who seem not to give a toss? I liked him, would love him back, especially on a permanent, but I do think a lot of fans are acting as though he had a Morris-style impact!
I liked the lad, thought he gave it everything in pretty much every match. But he's far from the finished article and he definitely needs quite a bit of coaching to address the weaknesses in his game (being offside, fluffing sitters, giving away silly, needless free kicks etc). Would I want him back on loan? Not sure, feels like we'd just be developing him for someone else's gain. Permanent signing? I'd prefer that, but equally it would probably mean that one of our promising talents gets pushed aside and doesn't get the game time to develop. I also don't think we'd get him cheap and I think there may be better uses for the transfer fee/wages.
Wow are they all on Radio 2 now.. just goes to show how long ago I listened.. I used to like Wogan, very funny on a morning.
Our ground puts players off joining us? We’ve probably got a better ground and training facilities than most at this level
I'd love to have him back, he looked a quality player with the commitment to match; I realise we either can't or won't match the wages of certain other clubs (quite rightly so, I don't want to go down the route of offering silly money that we can't realistically afford), but if we had a chance of signing him on realistic wages I'd snatch Luton's hand off.
Really? Owners having to bridge a 5m/6m black hole season in/out leaving very little budget wise and having to rebuild every season? On to Head coach number 3 on the current set up. Let's not kid ourselves if we'd owners willing to prop up some reasonable loses to have us having a real crack at it we'd take it. I'm not advocating it's right but probably 2 3rds of clubs out of 92 overspend that's unfortunately the way the games gone, it's stinks but ultimately you slip back if you don't keep up.
I looked the other week when we were complaining about our ticket prices at 27quid. The top Bolton price next season is 40. That’s another reason they and other clubs have bigger budgets. We complain about a couple of quid price rise but I guess we have to do this to keep any where near a top 6 playing budget and even then the owners are putting in 100s of K per month.
