Can not remember the last time I so a home win at Oakwell in the league. Hope Humphreys is as good as DKD
Imho deserved 3 points. First half well for a good 35 mins we were really good, enjoyed our sharp passing and the press. They came into it a bit more but we ended up holding on to a game we should have been out of sight with. Special mentions, DKD, Benson Cozzy and my "mom" Connell. Well done reds the "hex" is broken!
Enjoyed today, should have put game to bed in first 20 mins, and a but frantic towards the end but a welcome win at home and plenty to be pleased about today. Cosgrove looked good, DKD good debut and as for Baz Cotter, what an improvement in this lad, great cross for 2nd goal. CMYR’s!
Like criticising Ronnie Glavin for not putting in a tackle. He had Ray McHale to do that. Judge a player on his output. Phillips isn't Glavin standard, but one of the best we've had for goals & assists in a forward midfield position in a while.
I was impressed with benson when he came on ,he could be like new signing for gods sake man please keep fit.I want to see the best of him.
Many real positives from today. Brilliant debut from DKD. Barry was very Barry like. Cosgrove worked very hard. When Lofthouse gets his decision making right he’s going to be a very good player. Phillips was his usual self drifted in and out but won us the game. Craig was quietly impressive. Negatives were not killing the game off and Gaga’s decision making. He needs to improve his positional awareness and very quickly. Connell was ok overall but his passing was awful.
That back heel was good though. Thought he had a few brilliant segments of play, but is adjusting to playing in a more advanced position.
Phillips is our most influential player. When he impacts the game we win. I guess people gets frustrated when he drifts in and out of games but if he was at a level where he didnt do that he would be playing top end of championship/ bottom of PL. I love him.
Worth his weight in gold for his goals. The rest of his game is less good, but he’s playing in League One.
I like the guessing game with the subs. Take off a CB to bring on a full back. Whip off the scorer who's put us back in front ASAP. It's more fun than like for like predictability.
To be fair I thought we needed more balance and a better ‘footballer’ on the left - and that we had too many centre backs on the field first half. Didn’t mind that sub. And Phillips was clearly injured after scoring. Can’t grumble at getting him off and assessed.
Enjoyed the cameo from Lofthouse again , it’s great to be able to bring someone on with pace and skill when the opposition are trying to put us under pressure.
A convincing performance and thankfully, a league win at Oakwell. Hopefully they kick on from here. Getting the negatives out of the way first, I don’t think Pines or Maël covered themselves in glory for the goal conceded. But my lord, that’s another tragic piece of ‘keeping from Slonina. Really bad. He worries me. But beyond that, I think we deserved to win and at a canter. Should have been like last weekend and all over at half time. Yes, there were moments where it wasn’t great, but it was a dominant performance against probably the best side we’ve played at home in the league thus far. I enjoyed DKD’s debut. A few times he was easily dispossessed when going one-to-one with his defender, and he lacked control once or twice when played through in the box. That sounds like criticism. It’s not. Because I know he’ll do better as he goes along. But he showed guile, confidence and grabbing a goal will have done him the world of good. Phillo wasn’t superb today, but he invariably does the business and did again. Huge credit to Barry for the assist. I love that someone has clearly told him to go back to basics, play to your strengths and stop trying to look like Garrincha or Carlos Alberto. A simpler Cotter is one hell of an asset. Hope both he and Adam are okay. I felt Craig and Cosgrove were tied in terms of man of the match. The former did a lot of the unseen donkey work and did it well, whilst Sam worked the defenders all afternoon and deserved more for his efforts. Also fantastic to see Benno back on the pitch. Fingers crossed he can remain fit because he’s our most talented player. Might sound mental when you look at the other players we have, and trust me, I think Phillips is one of the best signings the club has ever made. But Josh is f****** mint and it’s a tragedy that he’s been cut down so often through no fault of his own. Hopefully this is his season, finally. Big result. Happy days. You Reds.
