Well at least everyone got to get their stinker out of the way. And fair play to Wimbledon's defenders who were near perfect all game.
Reality is we’ve won 3 lost 1 and drawn 1 out of our first 5 games. Much improvement needed and still need to strengthen, but still a fairly solid start.
Final ball cost us loads especially second half and on another day we get at least a couple of goals but we definitely need some quality back up especially in the defence and forward areas.
As i said at half time we've not been that bad. Wasteful at the top end and another two soft goals conceded. See what this week brings re transfers and on to the next.
Home team always gonna have a good spell, we'd had 70% possession before hand and they got their willy's up. Chalk it off, move it along. Still 10283735% better than last season.
The defending for the goals gets worse every time it is replayed. Zero effort from Earl, Shepherd and Cooper for the first. And the second... just let the player run through completely unattended.
Some people have got very short memories. Not the greatest performance but we've been nowhere near as bad as is being made out. Football is a game of fine margins, and the fine margins didn't go our way today. Literally none of them. If McGoldrick's first effort had gone in it's a completely different game. If the one that hits the post goes in, you'd have fancied us to rescue at least a point. Even at 2-0 down we kept our heads up, kept playing and trying to get back into the game, although hitting the post visibly deflated us. But compared with last season it's night and day, when as soon as things started going against us you could see heads drop and we'd start pumping aimless balls forward. Hopefully today will make it even more obvious to the powers that be what we need before the end of the transfer window.
Like you say the key moments didn't go our way and on another day we would win that, maybe a little kick up the backside might be a good thing in the long run. There's still time to wheel and deal to get a few more key players in that we need to make us a stronger unit rather than individuals.
Gonna log on when people stop baernin We had our chances. plenty of chances and we will get results like this but we will do well this season Up the reds
Can't blame Shepherd and Cooper. They very reasonably expected Earl to do something other than let a spinning ball bounce in the penalty area.
Wimbledon are by no means cack, best team we've played up to now. They defended well, closed us down, denied us space, showed great team spirit and determination, chased every ball, and will feel they should have had at least 3 more goals. All credit to their team and tactics. Bad day at the office for us but Wimbledon well deserved the win
Going to be really frustrating if this defence isn't sorted out by the end of the window, the difference in quality from the top end of the pitch to the defence is drastic. Our forwards would score 5 goals a game if other teams had our back line.
Tell me about it mate! I'm gunna make a petition soon to get a statue commissioned outside ground for him after these last couple performances!
Recruitment has been excellent so far. Very happy with everyone we've brought in. I'm fine waiting for our main targets, especially in such vital positions. Better risking missing out on a couple of points than bringing in another poor defender for the rest of the season. I'll wait till window shuts to moan at em if they haven't managed to get 1 over the line
Today showed the difference between a well organised defensive unit coupled with defenders wanting to defend. They were throwing themselves in front of everything whereas we often gave them plenty of space. We were poor today but also if we’d have taken our chances, the game could’ve gone very differently. Saying that, Cooper man of the match. Quite comfortably too. Rotate and give minutes to players that need them now for the Rovrum game in the cup. We need our main starting group of players fresh and fit for Huddersfield. Big few days left in the transfer window too. We need a starting centre back. Someone that can come in and toughen us up. I’m not sure we will get that. We also need a proper number 9, even if it’s just to come on and change the game a bit.
