For me, we created lots of chances today and the main reason we didn't score was down to the final pass/shot decision making. The main issue though was the poor defensive line, lack of marking and the tendency for both CB to drift left being left footed. This left massive gaps in the middle and right of the pitch for their forwards to drift into unmarked. Hippolytes chances at the back post being a prime example of this as tennai had to drift in to mark the other striker.
lol, you’ll never log in. Some posters only ever join the MDT at the first signs of things not going our way.
I ain’t saying he’s crap he’s a good player but we need someone else as well don,t forget he,s 37 you seriously can’t expect him to play in every game.
I remember Anderson when he first came was garbage look what he developed into. I honestly can’t see mdg doing the same.
But it's not the first sign is it, the signs have been there for two seasons but moments of individual magic have helped mitigate the obvious issues with the squad, issues that have still to be addressed. At least 2 of the first team squads CBs ain't up to the job we are hoping a 37 year old striker will last all season without needing a new hip. We need 2 CBs and 2 CFs imho before the window shuts.
It’s the first sign on match-day though. Also, few of these posters never seem to contribute in the thread when things are going well, and team/squad is still the same. Most are aware we still need strengthening, but choose not wallow in a MDT only when things are not going well in the game
Just had a message from my son that went to the game and he said no one was particularly bad and couldn't fault their effort. What matters now is how they deal with that defeat, can they bounce straight back?
Would be brilliant if that happens against Huddersfield next week.....let’s hope we get plenty darn Oakwell to cheer em on and keep momentum going.
IMO Shepherd looked better on the left rather than right - he tends to drift left as that’s his natural position so him and Earl together doesn’t work. Earl I just don’t think is good enough for league one - he has a good game then an ok one then a poor one. We need a right sided centre back who can defend. One who will put his body on the line. He doesn’t need to have passing range or class on the ball necessarily - we need a proper centre back who is hungry to defend. I mentioned it earlier - but the difference in the two centre half pairings wasn’t necessarily ability - it was desire and attitude as much as anything else. The wombles centre halves were ‘thou shalt not pass’ - threw themselves in front of everything. Neither Earl or Shepherd are that. They are ‘modern’ defenders who can play a bit. But those two are both very left sided so it needs to be either/or, not both, if we are playing a back four. MDG isn’t really the answer you wouldn’t think. Robbo has broken down with a wear and tear type injury very early on so we can’t rely on him to be fit for the main part - so it needs addressing in this window. As does centre forward. Though I do wonder who might still be leaving and so need replacing as a perceived bigger priority.
I'll just correct you there if I may its not the first sign on match day we've had two seasons of signs of where the trouble lies but they've been ignored by those empowered to do something about it. we've left it until the last week of a window again without sorting out issues which needed correcting three windows ago.
Yeah it's been ok, i think all the signings have added something to the squad which is what you want. Another couple of first teamers ready to slot straight in and improve us, not pack out the bench is now top priority.
Disappointing today but I think our luck ran out a bit. We’ve had a better start than I expected but I’ve always thought that defence will hold us back. Problem is that we’ve got 4 centre halves in the first team squad and if we can’t get rid of any then we’re unlikely to recruit there. Roberts is past it, Shepherd is still learning at this level and both Earl and MDG are just awful defenders. Think we’ll win a few but lose almost as many and end up mid table. Frustrating…..
Did anybody listen to Tykes tv last night, I think there was something about 'Didzy' being too old!. Now I don't know if it was a dig at his missed chances at Peterbrough, or if it was just kind of an in-joke thing. But it is concerning if he did miss some more clear cut chances today, although surely that's got nowt to do with his age.
Thought we started really well, but you could tell early on that it wasn't sticking up front and McGoldrick was having an off day. Ideally he would have been subbed at halftime and another striker to come on and cause havoc. No idea why we waited to be 2-0 down to bring on our best chance of creating/scoring something with Russell and Clearly. That was poor from Hourihane in my opinion.
