When we were relegated he wanted to stay in the championship. He agreed to stay and both parties agreed if a release clause for certain £ if a championship club came in for him. Word is this deal has been ongoing 3/4 weeks. So isn’t a bolt from the blue.
I'm usually a happy clapper. I'm sorry 3 days in & we sell one of our 5 key players. I wait to see who the **** we bring in. Really **** after 5 great performances.
I think the reaction is understandable, but you’re right we need to judge them at the end of the window not the start - as long as we end the window stronger than we started it then the window has been a success for the fans. If we end it with more money for the owners to divvy out between them but weaker on the field it has been a success for them but a disappointment for the fans. They replaced Bradshaw well. But it would be nice if it wasn’t always one out and wait for one in. We needed 2 strikers and we have had to rely on U23s who have performed admirably. For every Woodrow there has been a Knasmullner. It’s always a gamble in January.
When you say ''he agreed to stay" do you mean "he had already legally committed himself to bfc till 2021"? If we renegotiated that contract totally in Potts' favour when we had three years left then we are ******* stupid.
Short term profit a few million that some has to be reinvested - the only real way to make money out of a club like ours is the premiership it’s that simple. We chose not to spend last jan which contributed towards our relegation loosing us just under 10 million pounds. I’m not wanting them to spend tens of millions but it would have made sense to consolidate and maintain our championship status. Pottsy was a key player for us with moncur out of favour and isgrove/hedges made of glass there had better be a decent replacement lined up who can fit straight in. It’s the only position we look really short on and as you stated a ridiculous time to sell.
Can’t disagree with any of that mate, I think there’s lots of overreactions on here today, players move on and like you say as long as we end up stronger then I’ll be happy,
Hang on a minute, is this the same Potts who was slagged off by a large section of this board last season who now, when down a division, suddenly becomes our hero and saviour, get a grip and see what happens, after all we did good on Bradshaw
I’m sure GG has said we have replacements lined up. Hopefully the deal is done quickly if we do as January is a huge month on the pitch. Think it will make or break an automatic promotion push.
That would be more stupid than selling Mcdonald to a relegation rival, replacing him with a free transfer in Mills so the money didn't have to be reinvested and giving our head coach job to Morais, all rolled in to one.
If we hadn’t he’d have gone in the summer and the likes of you would have been crying 6 months early.
Just shuddered remembering those **** ups. Matt Mills. Is that what “short term investment” in the team means! Let’s hope Stendel doesn’t get as pissed off as Hecky. Imagine his planning for Burnley needs adjusting now!
The midfielder joins the Reds on a three year deal, with a further option of a year in the Club’s favour. www.barnsleyfc.co.uk 03/08/2017 That by the way takes us to 2021 not 2018
Mills cost nothing so the Mcdonald money is wherever it is. Woodrow replaced Bradshaw for less than we got. We've now sold Potts. The new owners on transfers in and out should be easily in profit. On the playing side it doesn't look like they have spent anything yet in over a year.
I’ll not mention the £500k for Knasmullner, £350k for Mallan, £500k for McCarthy and £500k for Pearson.... Let’s assume there’s a bit of cash knocking about. Be nice to know it will go into a promotion push.
Doesn't really matter how folk saw him last year. Point is, right now we have a team that's doing pretty well. Which means, because this is Barnsley and we can't resist a transfer window, we start selling them.
