An old man jumping on my back, and both of us fell over the seat in front when Clint scored the goal. Mi back was killing me for weeks after. You'll never walk alone, brought a potty to the eye that did. Wonder if we will see that ever again at Oakwell? :)

I think it was Scott Jones's boot I ended up with?! Wonder what happened to him? I remeber finding some red and white work tape on the walk back to Dodworth to use as a bandanna and having champagne for the first time back home. I remember being acutely aware of the history being made and I remember my hate for Wolves turning to pity, nearly! I also remember the second after party held at Oxford's Manor ground soon after, nobody cared about being whipped as there was just so much sheer delight in the air.

one of the best songs I heard was at the manor ground....

    bye bye, to the nationwide
    bye bye, to the nationwide
    bye bye, to the nationwide
    bye bye, to the nationwide

that song had real meaning to it at the time too!

The best one was that salute to how hungover John Hendrie was...

    Pissed up Pissed up John
    Pissed up Pissed up John
    Pissed up Pissed up John
    Pissed up Johnny Hendrie!

...and then super John nodding in the away end's direction and giving a thumbs up to a big cheer!

Remember it being a glorious day in Oxford and it being a see of red and white in every beer garden. A superb day and I stuck a spare souvenir front cover of the Daily Mirror with Redders and Clint on the side window of the coach. I even remember SKY's marketing campaign that summer 'Football it's our religion' with a still shot of one of our fans sat atop the perimeter fence at the Manor ground applauding the players. What a day and what a summer, it was made even better by Sheff United capitulating in the Wembley play off final to Crystal Palace!

RE: Stood up in the Ponty End

this is a very moving contribution. The moment between your father and yourself must have been wonderful. Is he still with us ?

My father rest his soul followed a different team to me. Strange life innit

dreadful is an exaggeration. I came out feeling that neither of those teams deserved to be promoted. Awful wasn't it ?

Did you marry a lass from Sarf Landon or what ?

I remember vaguely thousands on the pitch, inlcuding me and my dad. Being about 8 at the time, most of it is a blur, but I also remember it chucking it down the week after at the parade. People were offering to buy tickets for loads too.

    He isn't mate , no .

My father passed away a couple of weeks before Christmas 1999 . Six months later , Barnsley walked out at Wembley for the first time and I'm certain he was saying to St. Peter , "Why has Bassett picked Keith Brown?"
He was my best friend and the grief is as raw as ever . I'm just grateful he wasn't around to see the club implode in 2002 .
