Yep "One Paul Stancliffe, there's only one Paul Stancliffe"! Brilliant day I've got the game on video
RE: Loads of memories I think it was that 1-0 game when we decided to stay with the Barnsley fans on leaving the stadium and ended up in the coach park thinking it wasn't the best idea as there were groups of Wolves fans at the exits!
Ron Futcher scored the only goal If I remember right, on my first visit to Wolves. I think we're talking about the same game.
That ref Was the one we had at Middlesborough earlier in the season who abandoned the game at half time (should never have started it) Anyway - Wilson and Bryan Robson both marked the ref down - early on in the Wolves game, Wilson asked the ref about some challenges by Wolves that went unpunished and why Barnsley were being blown up for the slightest thing - according to Wilson the ref said something along the lines of "You think you're getting anything after the marks you gave me for the Middlesborough match ? "
RE: That ref I went to that Boro away game. Ridiculous, it was like an ice rink. Vaguely remember a song about Uwe Fuchs their German forward, along the lines of 'Fuchs off'... nice.
I think it was before I believe the ref in question (can't remember his name) had officiated the match at Middlesbrough when it was cancelled at half time due to the frozen pitch. Wilson gave the ref low marks on his evaluation form. During the Wolves match Wilson asked if we were going to get any decisions during the game and the ref retorted "Not after the marks you gave me last time." Wilson told the FA this during his disciplinary hearing, but they banned Wilson anyway. The ref, however, was struck off after that season. It's a long time ago, so some of that may be wrong, but that's how I remember it.
RE: That ref Think we were 2-1 down when he abandoned it - players were in trainers. You're right it was like playing on glass.
We were 2-1 down God knows how, we were absolutely destroying them. Our team all had white trainers on, while they were still in boots and couldn't stand up.
RE: We were 2-1 down Brendan scored for us - we drew the replayed game 1-1. (Payton I think)
Great days them - no expectations, following Barnsley seemed more 'fun' then.

RE: We were 2-1 down I stand corrected. Do remember trainers been thrown on the pitch left right and centre.
Oh, and I went to that game with a friend of mine from Uni. We also went all the way to Stoke to watch us play only for that game to be postponed too. The final game he came to was the infamous 3-3 game with Ipswich. I didn't ask the lovely person to come again.
RE: We were 2-1 down It certainly was more fun. Especially for me who was about 12 at the time and didn't have to fork out for the petrol to get there. Midweek away games in the freezing cold were more appealing when you could sleep on the way back and the only worries were the maths homework you had to do on the bus the next day. Jumpers for goalposts etc etc etc
RE: We were 2-1 down That might be it - I'm equating a time of fewer responsibilities with happier days following Barnsley.
That or as is more likely, I'm turning into a right grumpy cantankerous old fcknut.
