Well I was born in June '71, so I turned double figures that year.
And remember near the end of the year, we/England finally managed to qualify for the World cup again, for Spain '82.
I remember that night in our deciding match at Wembley, against the group winners Hungary.
It was nervous and although we outplayed them, it was still only 1-0 at the end, thanks to the deciding goal from Paul Mariner.

East Hull ehh, does that mean your a Kingy Rovers RL fan lol.
I got into watching RL that season and I chose to support Hull Fc then, and it ended with them winning the Challenge cup.
But we still didn't do it at Wembley (against Widnes), we had to do it in the replay at Bellend road, Leeds.

And who can forget our amazing cricket Ashes win that summer, against the dirty Aussies lol.
Ian Botham was/is something else, and he was amazing in that series.
Although I think he got pressured into dropping his role as Captain didn't he, after some poor form.
The big match though was at Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire lol.
Bob Willis was fantastic with the ball, and he tore into them, even though we only had a small run total to defend.

Them were the days :D. All the ‘handy’ lads from Worsbro’ and Kendray sat on the bankings laughing and joking with each other, whilst rest knocked lumps off each other:eek:

It was the same over our way. Hemsworth v Sth Kirkby & Elmsall. Cringeworthy stuff really, but we scared ourselves out of going to the other areas with the stories of getting chased, or worse.

All those scary ‘big hitters’ were probably still at school :D
