The Conspiracy Theory....... that they planned to come home when they did because they knew the net was closing on them.
RE: The portuguese police also I thought the change in status only allowed them to leave portugal for five days maximum.
RE: The portuguese police ....Anyone can take a sleeping child out of their bed, such is the depth of their sleep.... Not true, times when my 4yr' old granddaughter sleeps at ours its tippy toe time, as she can hear a change of channel on the TV. Children I've found (mine anyhow) are very sensitive to sound when asleep. And it doesnt take much to wake them.
RE: The portuguese police They can't leave, and must report to the Police every 5 days, and with ID. Just take the newpapers!!! The more I think about the whole thing, the more I think Maddie is dead, and the parents know more than they're letting on. I mean, you've just been interrogated about the death of your daughter, and you're as calm, and as cool as a penguins plums when he's got a hernia.
off the island? What island is this?Have i missed Portugal being separated from mainland Europe by some major earthquake or something recently?
Am I allowed to laugh at that The idea of an Earthquake splitting the island of Portugal from the Iberian Peninsula without us noticing makes me laugh for some reason. Obviously its not funny though
RE: I think it's a disgrace mate. But where did the report of a deal come from? certainly not the police. It came from a family friend and is simply heresay. Also under Portuguese law only a judge can alter the relevant punishent for a crime (which there are set terms for), not the police. Additionally Kate McCann had a Portuguese lawyer present who would it's fair to say would be quite aware of this law and would therefore make any police attempt to 'lead her on her' utterly pointless. Secondly only a confession made in court is legally valid in Portugal, not one made under police questioning. Therefore the police would have no real motive to get one out of her as it would not be valid in court if the case eventually ended up there*. Indeed that is why (apparently) no taped recordings are made during police questioning, in case a suspect may say something that they later regret saying. The law PROTECTS suspects. Lastly the police do not have the power to charge either of the McCann's, that is done as I understand by a public prosecutor in Portgual**. Either the person (Mr Corner) is lying or he has simply got the wrong end of the stick in what he has been told. Of course watching and reading UK media reports is not a good way to get any sensible information about Portuguese law because by enlarge they are far too quick to shout their mouths off. But hey, that's the UK press, a press who are quick to condemn and ask saucy questions in all cases, all it seems apart from this where they have been on the 'Find Maddie' bangwagon, boosting paper sales with little critical comment about their behaviour or actions, only those of the Portuguese police and system of law. Since around 75% of child deaths where foul play is involved are traced back to the parents or close family friends/relatives it should afford theMcCann's a high level of suspicion in police investigations. This does not of course mean they are responsible but the UK press has for the most part rubbished all suggestions they might, just might, be involved. Had she gone missing in the UK and her parents had not been so 'middle class' they would have jumped all over the McCann's about leaving her unattended in a foreign country and asked why they chose not used the nanny service that was available to all guests. That doesn't make them guilty and it doesn't mean the child deserved to be taken, if that's what happened, but it does make them negligent and it does make the UK press's attitude toward them hypocritical and for the most part entirely one sided. edit: * indeed if she did confess to the police, she could retract this in court and it would be made inadmissable by the judge. ** that is to say that any reports of the police not bringing charges, or indeed bringing charges should be ignored as they have no power to do so.
If the sun is to be believed (i know, i know) then the mccann's washed their daughters favourite toy the day after she went missing. Now if that is true then that is very weird behaviour in my opinion, especially since she has held that toy close to her every day since then. The last thing I would do would be to wash the thing that my daughter was holding the night she was abducted, i'd want to be able to smell it just how it . The sun also raises an interesting point in that they didnt need to hire a car at all until 25 days after she went missing (fair enough) but then hired one the day before they left the country to visit the pope. What was so important that they needed their own private car on that day?
Can't usually be arsed to write anymore And I can't again.. however, I don't usually agree with your comments and this time I think you're spot on... They may have played the British press like a pink piccolo
They arrogantly refused help for months. They completely ignored a witness who came forward to say she'd seen someone with a child behaving strangely that night, they repeatedlyrefused police and technological help from the UK, the police who were supposed to be searching cars at the border sat in their own cars out of the rain and let everyone straight through, the two main officers in charge spent most of their afternoons getting pissed up in a local bar and now, when details of their scandalous mishandling of the case are public knowledge worldwide they suddenlyclaim to have some reason to believeit's all the parents' doing but are willing to offer a two year deal! They must think we're as sloppy as they are.</p>
RE: I think it's a disgrace mate. But if this bargaining isn't true, and is just hearsay passed on to the press by a friend, why doesn't a representative of the Portuguese police rebut the accusation? By staying silent they must realise that they look as if they are bungling along without a clue.
RE: Can't usually be arsed to write anymore If their child has genuinely been abducted then they are only doing what any parent would do in the same circumstances. If they were involved I dare say the whole press machine and its drive to find her ran well out of their control and they were for the most part sucked into all the events that happened afterwards. The meeting with the Pope for instance came about, I think im right in saying, from a UK journo who had contacts inside the Vatican press department.
RE: I think it's a disgrace mate. they have already rebutted it, there is a comment in today's Observer saying just that.
