He's lucky I didn't pull his head off that day .......

..... and ram it up his arse. The daft thing is, there was probably only 2 or 3,000 season ticket holders for the 96/97 season, maybe more if they had half season tickets at the time (can't remember if they did) but it wouldn't have been a massive task to let the season ticket holders have a week or so to renew/pick their seats before general sale.

If the pillocks had let us have designated seats during the promotion season it might have helped ...... fooking tossers, it still meks my blood boil when I think abart it and that's ten years on!

In the promotion season there were no more than 3,400 season ticket holders - it was symptomatic of the way the club was run at the time that they could suddenly see all this money coming in and the silly sods that had been loyal were ignored.- as you say, even if they'd have given ST holders just 2 weeks to get theirs, then there would have been ample time to sort everyone, instead they instigated blind panic. I'd actually been in to enquire as was assured that I'd get my renewal notice well before they'd announce when they were going on sale. *******. Spinks et al were alright if you were well in with them. mate of mine took his lottery takings in to the old offices - nearly a thousand quid and was totally ignored cos a local famous umpire had come in for his complimentary ticket - show what they really thought of the average fan.

Ran me and two mates home 12 mile trip when car was nicked from car park.
Always ready for a chat with you, no pretentions. Worked his butt off for the club, and is a 100% BFC fan.

I know what you mean ....

.... a small clique running the club, looking after their 'mates' or anybody who was the least bit 'famous' (in their eyes) and shitting on the diehards, simply cos in their opinion some of them were 'a bit rough around the edges'. The fact that most of these lads/lasses travelled the country for years on end, even to the likes of Torquay on a cold Tuesday night in the old 4th division, carried no weight whatsoever with Spinks and his mates. They had eyes for one thing only - money, and when 'the glory days' unexpectedly came along, they were so far up their own arses with how well 'they' had done, they forgot about everybody else, and promptly **** on them for a quick buck. I love BFC (on the pitch) and I always will, but I loathe some of the people who have been associated with the so called 'running' of the club over the last 35 years or so, because of all their under hand stunts and dirty tricks, and Spinks is in that category

Have you read 'Life at the Top' ? - about our promotion season and subsequent year in The Prem. Bloke that writes that refers in subtle ways to the ineptitude of the off field management at the time.

Agree totally, the team on the pitch get my unswerving support, some of those off it over the years I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

Agreed I always found him civil and courteous. Always had the best interest of the club at heart. He paid me a lot of money over the years. But then I was resident Organist at the Social Club in the corner of the ground, Michael was the man who paid me each week.

If he was better at his job he would probably still be employed at the club. Enough said.

We weren't run like a professional outfit then, and we still aren't.

    You don't know that mate

I know he did some really stupid stuff, in fact, he once made some of the london lot drive all the way to Oakwell on a day off for wembley tickets because he wouldn't post em.

But I wouldn't say he was up his own arse. They just weren't set up for being a prem club, and acted like a very small club in a big league, i.e. didn't think what they were doing. But I don't think they did any if it on purpose and I certainly don't think it was a clique.

I didn't know the guy but its just another view
