Really not sure why some have put Berry top. He's going to be a good player and has been working hard recently to break up play, but that's the limit of his game at the moment. He's contributed 0 goals and doesn't offer much in attack for a player who bagged 14 and numerous assists last season, albeit in the conference.

I've put berry 1st because I think he's had a very good, consistent season so far. I thought that is what the thread was asking me for, MY opinion. Sorry if it doesn't suit you sir.

No need to apologise, your opinion is as valid as anyone elses'. Tbh I was hoping someone would back up why they'd picked Berry without me having to ask people directly, as for me he's been decent but nowhere near Hourihane, purely because of the latter's integral goals and assists.

Hourihane scored on Saturday, but Berry had a better game. It's It's a matter of opinion but mine is that Berry has been our 2nd most consistent performer behind Winnall. Hourihane has moments of brilliance but for me has just been a little too inconsistent.

Pretty sure Berry has scored a goal for us btw, only one mind.

I'm struggling to understand a lot of the votes for Nyatanga who for me has been very poor for a large part of the season.

    Opinions eh

Berry is probably my favourite player but I'm not sure you can describe a player who has scored about a third of our goals and created another third as inconsistent. Two thirds of our goals have directly involved CH so how do you define inconsistent?

Berry in comparison has scored one and assisted one.

Fair enough. The thread was about listing our 1-3 though, not giving reasons or asking people to critique other's lists. And I didn't want to make Cunning Stunt angry by breaking his rules (he's ruthless at times). But as you've messed up his thread (joking btw) I've given you my reasons now, he's been our most consistent performer. Hourihane has scored goals and got assists (plenty from being the corner taker mind) but he's in a position to do so, and has been inconsistent despite that. Berry may have a few goals by now if he played in that position.

    1 - Hourihane

    2 - Berry

    3 - Winnall

Hard to ignore the contribution Hourihane has made for us, can be very frustrating at times though.

Berry is pretty much the opposite. Works very hard, always one of the best players on the pitch. Lacks goals/assists in his game.

Personally think if Winnall hadn't got injured he would be most people's number one by now. He combines the work rate, ability and goals.

Does the fact that we're now dangerous for the first time in absolute ages from corners and other set pieces thanks to Hourihane's excellent delivery mean that this can now be conveniently ignored? We've now got a midfielder who has scored 11 goals before Christmas, got just as many assists in goals for team mates, created many more for his colleagues which have been missed and all some folk can do is denigrate his contributions.
Perhaps it'll be for the best that Hourihane moves on this January to a club where his abilities will be more appreciated. Then we can replace him with the likes of Dawson, Frimpong, Fox and others of their ilk and we'll be much better off.

I think they all need mentioning in dispatches ....... this season was a new start for the club; it was never going to be easy (as some would have thought) so fair play to this years group of special human beings - I appreciate all their efforts. If I have to answer the OPs question:

    Hourihane
    Winnall
    Crainie

I think the other thread, however tongue in cheek, is counter-productive. Judge Brown after a few games as CB, but to give grief like that on this forum is a bit below the belt IMHO.

    1.) Hourrihane
    2.) Winnall
    3.) Berry

3rd could easily have been Turnbull, Cranie or Cole.

I'm certainly not denigrating anyone, or ignoring his corners, just accounting for them. As you'll see I've got him at no2 in my list. I'd not class that as denigrating him.

I'm just very impressed with Berry, is that a crime? Or do we all just have to list Connor as our no1 else we don't appreciate a footballer? Pointless thread if that's the case.

    It's not mid-season. We've only played 21 games.

You've mentioned on more than one occasion that a great number of his assists are because he takes corners. Well, we've had plenty of corner takers in the past whose delivery was nowhere near as productive, proficient and dangerous as Hourihane's. It's a bit like someone's goal tally being denigrated because of the number of penalties they've scored. Brian Howard was one such victim, Chris O'Grady another. I've read your opinion as the number of Hourihane's assists aren't as good as someone with my views claims, as he takes all our corners. This comes across as a negative response to me. If I've misinterpreted your viewpoint, then I apologise.
I too rate Berry and appreciate the contributions he's made despite making a big step up, which is why I've selected him in my top three. The difference, I suppose, is choosing not to highlight conceived issues with their abilities and contributions of other choices. Offering different & alternative opinions in various styles is a strength of the BBS. I've simply provided mine.

    Me too.

I wouldn't say he's been poor but I'd certainly say both Cranie & Ramage have been better than him at centre back
