I fear you are in for a huge disappointment. Having heard several Rotherham callers on Football Heaven both prior and post Robins talking to us, the football he delivered was 'direct but effective'. Not pretty to watch but got the job done. 'Results are all that matter' I think is a common quote from Robins post match. Cant fault him for that. At all.
You have to adjust to what division your in... maybe he thought Rotherham couldn't play their way out of that division.
I'll settle for fourth from bottom on goal difference. Providing we play football. Proper football. On the grass and that.
Ask Stoke fans if they were happy with direct football (Premiership) I for one want to see my team win, if they achieve that by direct combative football then thats fine by me, anything else is a bonus. 50 points by April 3rd would be wonderful considering what we've gone through the last two seasons. The King is Dead... Long Live the King....!!!
Be honest though.... the Davey regime was dead in the water.... He had every last chance to pull things round. Bearing in mind the record of wins, draws, losses, he could have been on his way earlier. PC gave him the last chance in a way which the public and fans could understand. The players did as much as they could raise the enthusiasm to give. We had a good pre-season, but, on the evidence I have seen this season, the sense of drive, motivation and organisation amongst the players was just not there. I don't see how it could have got much better and it could have continued at the same abysmal level for another two months, or longer. Football is, as they say, a funny business and managers (unless you are SAF) tend to take a club on for up to three/four years, then leave for a better job if they have done well, or get sacked if they have not. That's the way it works. Davey had had his halcyon days at Anfield and at home to Chelsea and in keeping us in the Championship. He has contributed to moving the club forwards, but it must have been clear to everyone that it was the end of the line. You just know when you are going to be unable to raise that squad for a further season and Davey had reached that point. I genuinely hope that he gets another job soon and that he plays a significant part in moving forwards his new club, whether that be Championship, league one, or league two. No sentimentality now - time to look forwards and not back.
How many other teams look back on certain games and say "if only"? 23 You are where you deserved to be after 46 games and we were the 20th best team. Simple as that. Based on the two previous finishes of 20th and 18th it's not as if Davey had a track record of delivering mid table football.
If only Barnyard had scored that penalty at Wembley if only Oddjob had slotted home that chance at wembley.. if only JCR hadnt missed that pen at home to Forest.. If only my Aunty had B*ll*cks she'd be my uncle.... etc etc...
