    Can’t have been your mrs that tried to kill me then, both were solo in suv type vehicles with ‘entitled’ etched into their chubby arms. On queue with the rest of us thing though perhaps your mrs would benefit from a copy of Aesop’s Fables, the tale of the dog in the manger springs to mind :)

    If you're talking about somebody cycling (rather than motorcycling) then they were within their rights not to wait in a queue of motor vehicles. Whilst I don't condone his/her hurling abuse at you, maybe prior to him cutting you up you had executed a close pass which upset them? This happens to me all the time where motorists think it's ok to flash past me at 40+ mph whilst giving me less than 3 feet of clearance.

    Motorists should remember that

    1) cycling in the gutter is not a safe option for anyone on a bike - there is nowhere to go
    2) bicycles are vulnerable to the quality of the road surface - we may hit a hole and lose control or we may have to swerve to avoid one, either way if you don't allow enough clearance then you could hit one of us.
    3) forcing a bike into the door zone of parked vehicles is VERY dangerous indeed.

    Some of the comments on here have left me a tad confused. For my sins I was recently 'forced' to take a Speed Awareness (Smart Motorways) course. A few things:

    - I was told undertaking was an offence (I have to admit I do it quite a bit in frustration at the middle lane drivers - though realizing if caught I pay the price).
    - In the 'near future' undertaking; middle lane driving (when the inside lane is free) and tailgating - will all become fixed penalty offences on Smart motorways, in the same way that speeding is now. The camera technology can pick up all these offences.

    Incidentally I was on the course because I was doing 56 mph on the M1 smart motorway in Nottingham. I was caught in roadworks where the maximum speed was 50 mph. The two instructors on the course were not sympathetic to my excuse which was;

    "I was driving our lasses car and observing the correct speed of 80mph (ahem) in cruise control. I saw the signs for 50 mph and was in the process of pressing the dash button to reduce my cruise control speed when the camera caught me. It was the camera's fault Gov because it only gave me 100 meters to reduce my speed." As I say - not very sympathetic.

    My understanding, and I haven’t checked, is that you are allowed to pass on the near side under certain circumstances, the left lane moving faster than the right being one of them.

    The key words being "slow moving traffic, not to get round a "middle lane hogger"

    Not driven into the city since last summer. Helps if you know where you're going, which I don't. :)

    I don't think that covers me undertaking at 70 mph then, though I would argue the middle lane driver is only doing 60!

    I run my own business and choose to do it, and enjoy believe it or not. I get a good salary and some might not like that but I don’t mind lol

    Yes I realised that after I posted, sometimes I wish there was the facility to delete a post....
