Crikey. There are some idiotic posts on here lately but that's got to be the snake's belly. Tearing in to a new player after 1 game in which the whole team was *****. Have a word with yourself cos this is pathetic.
I will remember to revisit this thread in May. If I am wrong I will hold my hands up. Nowt idiotic about having a strong opinion or making a snap judgement. Often the first instinct is the right one. As proved by Kayodi Odejayi.
I wrote Vaz Te off after Pompey away. About his 5th game or summat. I hope Lalkovic proves you to be a tit like Ricardo did me.
Against my better judgement I went and Funded Offspring as well ! Wish I had saved the money but I let the excitement of the Yeovil game get the better of me
Happened to me with Bogdanovic. I held my hands up. Plenty of others I dismissed straight away and I was spot on. I always hope every player I write off will prove me long but they rarely do.
Only wrote two off this season. Lita and Treacy. Based on their attitudes at previous clubs and before they'd kicked a ball for us. I wrote M'Voto off after about 10 games last season but he's still here, bless him. Reece Brown's not reight good but I expected him to play centre half to be fair to him.
I wrote one off at the start of the season - I called it right. I thought Winnall would be good - I was proved right. I thought Treacy would be good - that one dint go too well.
I remember going to Hartlepool. Got to the ground about 10 minutes before kick off and had a quick look on the BBS to find we'd got some lad called "Fernando" on trial. At half time he was warming up on his own just in front of the reds fans, doing kick ups. He was only managing to do 6 or 8 before dropping the ball. He got called over by one of the coaching staff, gave a cocky look to a few people on the front row who found the name Fernando quite numerous, then did a little flick and back heel towards goal, which went wide by a couple of feet from about 5 yards out. I thought to myself, who is this clown. That was my first impression of Ricardo Vaz Te.
I met him before the Soton home game, just as I was going into the Ponty End. I asked why he wasn't involved. "Ask the gaffer" he said and gave me one of those "he's a bellend" looks. He was right. Keith was and is a bellend. But after seeing his initial performances after that brief meeting, I assumed he was a bellend himself and not a team player. I'd have drove him out of Oakwell myself after that Pompey game. Even David Preece says Hillcroft told him after that to find another club. Then he scored against Burnley, and scored some more, and the rest is history. Viva Ricardo. Viva Bellendo.
Back to the original post....Lalkovic wasn't even close to being our worst player yesterday. The 'efforts' put in by Jennings and Hourihane were absolutely abysmal. It's time we took Hourihane out for a couple of games, as if he's not scoring, he's not contributing anything at all. It's always levelled at Cranie that he's not captain material so I have no idea what this workshy slacker has done to deserve the armband. I feel for the lad Smith. He could turn out to be a decent player and there is no way I'll write him off, but at the moment he's not quite up to it. Looks ok(ish) defensively but a little panicked on the ball. Also it's clear Holgate needs to play centre half and not right back.
Didn't CH score one and create one last Saturday and the same in our previous win against Orient? Or am I missing summat.
Would that have been a penalty last week? Hardly scoring from open play. Those duties could easily be passed to another player. If your happy with his none performances of late you're obviously far more easily pleased than me. I think he's offered very little other than a lot of arm waving over the last month or so.
I haven't been on here all weekend and was expecting a lot of negativity this morning, but WOW! The worst part of all this is that you will be hoping Lalkovic turns out to be useless so you can say "Told you so..!"
Apart from creating or scoring all our goals scored in that period...and who won the penalty he cored from He is not playing as well as earlier in that season but which other midfield and indeed forwards will actully score if we drop him. Jennings/Hemmings/Wareing 1 leagie goal Berry/Bailey/Digby/Abbott/2 new loanees 0 goals Lita 2 goals This doesn't take into account the fact that he has created more than the rest of the team added together. Ay manager who dropped a player who had contributed to 2/3 o his teams goals that season would be mad. Its like Harry Rednapp dropping Charlie Austin for not tackling well enough.
If you don't like the product there is a simple solution to save your money... don't go. If you didn't like a restaurant you wouldn't keep going then moaning. I however, will keep going as it's the most exciting it's been in years watching a young team develop rather than constantly running on empty with journeymen who couldn't give a monkeys. Jus' sayin'.
Poor analogy using Charlie Austin really as he is employed to score goals and do nothing else. Hourihane is a midfielder and by design they should offer more than taking corners that hit this first man, backing out of tackles and generally blaming everyone else for your own personal shortcomings. Like, under hit or misplaced passes (before I'm asked to justify that point) Hourihane is like Wilson. Completely marmite. Some people love him and can see no wrong and that's fine. However, in my opinion he has to do more than score the occasional penalty, which is all he has mustered in the last couple of months in terms of goal scoring. As for who's going to score the goals? After Saturdays non performance I simply don't have a clue. Plenty in this current squad are nowhere near good enough.
Who opened the scoring against Leyton Orient last month? Was it scored from a penalty? How many goals have we scored from corners this season, especially when compared to how few we've scored in recent years? Who takes these corners?
