Yes it is true. The foul/hand ball penalises the defending team and reduces their points total by 5/10. The subsequent penalty increases the points total of the attacking team by a further 20 points. The total points differential is 25/30 points.
Under the scoring system you gave how can a foul resulting in a penalty result in a reduction of 5/10 points? Could you give a breakdown of how you get these points in this scenario? Woodrow throws himself to the floor in the box and gets a penalty. Their player is already on a yellow so gets a second yellow and thus a red. Woodrow takes the penalty and it's saved. I've read your system on page 3 of this thread many times and still don't understand how you got 5 points off them (considering a foul is worth 1 and a card is 5 or 10 so how can it possibly be 5?).
Just done a check of your system and for the Liverpool Chelsea game I have already said I found the penalty incident he most exciting part of the game however under the system you have produced Handball: -1 point Red card for James: -10 points Yellow card to Rudiger: -5 points Yellow card to Mendy: -5 points Penalty scored: +20 points Total net entertainment value to a neutral: -1 point Can you honestly say that you believe that a neutral would find it so boring as to take away entertainment points?
Chelsea would be deducted 21 points and Liverpool credited with 20 points. You are right that the total game score reduces by 1, but that is because Chelsea were deducted points. I thought that James was unfortunate, but others deserves their cards and the punishment of the system because they delayed the game, which I believe most people would not find entertaining. If you find players putting pressure on a referee and delaying the game to be entertaining, then we are different. You are quoting an uncommon set of circumstances to undermine the system. In fact, the incident which took several minutes to resolve, when no football was played, in the main, simply re-allocated the points earned up to that point. We will have to disagree on this, and I suspect the Entertainment Index in particular. It is a shame, because you could have helped to change the system to one that everyone could get behind if you were more positive. Que Sera.
That's the thing though, everyone is different but I guarantee that there will have been more neutrals entertained by that part of the game than like you who found it so boring it resulted in a negative entertainment. Here me out on why I don't think you can be helped in changing your system. Because it's a silly system. Everyone is different we are all entertained by different things and what red rain likes does not in any way represent the majority as proven last year. You even call your own report the minority report so it seems a bit daft that you create an entertainment index based on it and try to push it on the majority. By the way I liked your general report this weekend, didn't agree at all but found it interesting to read
If you have been following my logical progression on this, you will note the Entertainment Index does not represent my own entertainment likes/dislikes. I did not enjoy the way that we played under Ismael, but the Entertainment Index liked it far more. The point is that the Index is separate from any individual likes/or dislikes because it is based upon independent data. You could argue that it should not be called Entertainment Index, but until someone comes up with a more appropriate name for it, that is the way it will stay.
Just a final note. Unfortunately, I will miss the next home game, so there will be no Minority Report until the final game in September v Nottingham Forest.
