my partner still a member has put in a compliant about all the MPs who called for a change of leader under Corbyn. Think are 167 sitting MPs on it.
Nothing wrong with nationalism or patriotism. I support a United ireland and an independent Scotland and Wales. Depends on the type of nationalism. We need to counter attack the racist xenophobia that pretends to be nationalism in the U.K. which is in contrast to the empathetic social democracy found in Scotland.
I’d consider myself a ‘progressive patriot’ (decent book by Billy Bragg btw). However; whilst I have more sympathy with a united Ireland, I’m not sure I’ve all the knowledge required to say it’s the right answer. Likewise Scottish and Welsh independence. And IMHO as soon as you unfurl the Nationalist banner you start to attract a wide range of people; some of who’m I really don’t want to be associated with. Although I’m no longer angered by patriotism (my younger self was), I’m still a bit suspicious of it. Whilst many ‘Scottish Nationalists’ are lefties who simply want to be separated from the Westminster government (and who could blame em), there are others who are much more radical in their views of the English.
