    This is mine as well

It has taken on an almost mythical quality of tedium amongst the five thousand odd that were there that night I think. Sat in Eaststand Upper 'for a treat' and wanted to fling myself on to Eaststand Lower by half time. It was really cold as well.

you must be young then cos the grimsby matches of the late 70s were highly charged affairs, against brolly, ford et al, esp the win against them that gained us promotion at oakwell.

    Had to miss that game

Due to a prior commitment. Next game, the lad I used to sit next to said "The next time you've got to miss a game, tell me & I'll miss it with you!" :D

RE: Barnsley 0-0 Oxford Utd 1996/97 promotion season

I forgot my ST that day and had to pay in! Took my stub and my book to the ground next week and got a refund - the good old days!!!!

Was that when that ref was in charge who had the flamboyant hair ? Bit of a celebrity - we were giving some grief, then he turned down a strong penalty claim for Oxford in front of the away end - turned round and asked the Barnsley fans "Do you still think I'm crap ? " - it was obviously a big crowd with plenty of noise.....

That was the best 0-0 draw I've ever seen ............

.......... loads of attempts on goal by us, Phil Whitehead in the nets for them, played a blinder, he was brilliant that night ........... there was between 6 & 7,000 at that game (October 1996?) and it's weird how many folks claim to have been 'regulars' during our famous 'promotion to the premiership' season, only the same old diehards there that night from what I remember!

Thats the one, definate pen but luckily for us he didnt give it,not a very big crowd at all,one of the least intimidating away fixtures ever, suprising really as the away end entrance was down a narrow ginnel/snicket,prime ambush location for the local hoolies.

0-0 evening match & I'd taken the RR's. 2nd coldest match I've ever been to.

Only highlight was having a chat wi Higgy when he asked for our blanket when he took a throw in

Can't remember exactly when it was, but PHart was in charge, it was a red hot day and both teams played like it was a kickabout. The only one on our side who looked remotely interested was Chris Shuker.
