Gior. Such a wide variety of genres from a single artist. Such influence on future music. You don't like him, fair enough, but overrated? Pfft.

Just goes to show what a folly this thread is.

Reight, I've nominated Beatles and Elvis...Not denying or demeaning the massive impacts they both made on modern culture, but for me the majority of music they recorded was at best average, this is my opinion in answer to the OP.

Thrice are a cracking band. And in my opinion another band who evolved with each album, though Vheissu is easily my favourite of theirs. They're playing at Hevy fest this year, I was tempted to go just to see them (and Coheed and Cambria actually) but decided against it. Was never really fussed wth Atreyu though

I loved Illusion of Safety. Obsessed with it for a good 12 months. Might have to see what they're like now they're back together, but their last couple of albums were lacking in the thing that first pulled me in, the speed/frenetic nature of their tracks.

This song, live in 2004 at Reading. Good times.

Aye I was there for that too! Definitely one of my favourite early tunes, along with Deadbolt. I must admit it was their fast/heavy stuff that got me into them in the first place but then by the time every other band was doing the same thing I could appreciate the fact they had changed quite considerably and definitely stood out because of that.

Not sure if they have plans to write anything else or if it's just touring/playing a few shows again but I'll definitely be on the look out for new material

Got a bit grungey on later albums. I preferred that frenetic pace they started out with, and that knack of never knowing which note or key they'd play next, riffs went off all over't shop. :)

I have heard so many people rave about this album so I had a listen and it just didn't do it for me - but I know a lot of people who do like it say it's the best album of all time.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned The Doors and their pretentious dirge led by that pointless ****hook Jim Morrison.

Or Pink Floyd. Ridiculously pointless hippies.

There are few bands I actually hate but the Doors are definitely one. Jumbo makes my skin crawl and their fans are often wannabe idiots.

It's the same feeling I get when I've heard Kasabian. I just don't get it. Yet they're lauded by so many.

    Each to theirs.

    Re: total No Brainer... OASIS

Now that I've finished my iTunes A-Z I've taken to dropping in at a certain point and listening to random albums as I scroll down. I happened upon the Doors the other day and decided to play one of their albums, but I struggled to choose one, because they all have great songs punctuated by moments of up their own ar5e self indulgence. I ended up plumping for Strange Days, only to start grabbing for the fast forward button when Horse Latitudes came on.

I find it difficult to listen to a lot of the guitar based bands of the past decade. I very quickly went off things like The Flaming Lips, Franz Ferdinand, Doves, BRMC, etc. Of modern music I much prefer electronic music (especially Hot Chip and **** Robot) and grown up pop (I absolutely love Sophie Ellis Bextor and Goldfrapp) to guitar based 'indie' types, because there's usually too much of a 'heard it all before' thing going on. That said, and despite the influences being so obvious, Noel Gallagher's two solo albums are terrific.

I have recently found myself, at the age of 45, listening to dubstep, which probably indicates some sort of midlife crisis. But Untrue by Burial is absolutely brilliant. It's like an audio version of getting home from a club in Soho at 3 in the morning, via a fast food joint and the nightbus. Or at least that's what it sounds like to me. Just wish I had that album and a not yet invented iPod on which to listen to it 20 years ago, when I was in the habit of trying to get home from clubs in Soho at 3 in the morning!
