Leeds sold him to go on a Premiership push, so whilst he’s matured, he’s not a Premiership first choice.
    His choice may be;
sign for Leeds with an expectation of being a sub.

Sign for the Blunts, though I’ve no idea what their current midfield looks like. And they’ll finish below Barnsley next season.

Sign back for us as captain with the highest salary at the club (but less money than the above choices).

he’s got to 26 as a pro footballer without moving too far from his mums house, his GF has a business to run in Donny, they’re a young family surrounded by family support. I don’t think he’s looking for the big money offer 200 miles away, but I do fear the Blunts will turn his head.

He hasn’t got us over a barrel. He will be weighing up his options.
If no one comes in. ( according to your view. On his ability’s No one will. With aspirations to reach the premier) then the balls in Barnsley’s court. One thing for certain is I don’t think they’ll hang around now. To get it sorted. Players are allowed to talk to other clubs without permission 6 months prior to end of contract.
I personally hope he signs. It would be in the clubs favour as he still has a value. If someone comes in for him. At a later date.
    Take Brittains case.
Released in June 2020. ( everyone thinking he must be crap because of that. But it was down to clubs finances) Signed a new deal August 2020. Signed for us October 2020. for an undisclosed fee. Win win for MK dons.
I can only think he wasn’t a first choice target for us. Whilst he was a free agent.
Lots of players throughout the leagues better make their minds up quick or risk being on the scrap heap. (If it’s true Rhodes has accepted £11k pw he’s made the right decision not waiting for what if) These are different times. Players haven’t got clubs over a barrel so much.

If he leaves I'd love to see him go to the Prem and prove the doubters in this thread wrong.

He's improved so much over the last 3 years - every year it feels like a big step. He might make another big step in the prem. If we had done it I'd have fancied him to improve

Under the right guidance he’s capable of it

see Ayling, Cooper, Bamford and to an extent Philips under Bielsa

Wouldn't surprise me if that photo was him agreeing to join Leeds.

Anyone that believes any of our players would see us as ‘not having ambition’, needs to read the ‘expectations’ thread and give their head a wobble.
All of this squad (including Dike) will know that the business plan is to push on from here.

If AM had drawn a line in the sand last August for what the club had to achieve this season in order for him to re-sign, they’ve almost certainly smashed it. No one at this club realistically believed that if they failed to get promoted it’d be an underachievement.

Reading all the nonsense that we’ll lose Val Alex and even Dike due to a lack of success is nonsense. We might leave them because better offers are available, but that’s not lack of ambition it’s prudent management.

What are you doing? This isn't a place for praising any of our players after a wonderful season! They're all rubbish, not worth anything, either financially, or what they contribute to the team and club! Get with the doctrine!

Yep agree. The only blip and may be a little controversial to some. I thought his poorest form came when James played alongside him. Val substituting him on many occasion. ( I’m not in the James camp) Mowatt imo revels on being the engine in midfield. And that’s where his future lies at any club for me.
Come on Alex, sign a new contract. You know it makes sense.

Tbf I think all of that is your personal interpretation of what's happened. I've listened to several interviews from Dane Murphy, and in every one he's said Alex has been a total professional about the contract situation. There's nothing from the Club to suggest he's holding the Club to ransom in any way. I don't understand why you're so angry. He's been brilliant for us, and nothing but 100% professional throughout. His stock is high and this is probably his last big contract. He can probably double/treble his money and financially secure his family for life. Wouldn't you do the same? He's a professional footballer and has more than fulfilled his contract. You have an emotional connection to Barnsley FC, but he doesn't. He doesn't owe us anything.

Absolutely. He’s given everything for us. As they all have this season. Can’t fault him.

    ^^^^^^^^^^ in spades.
Although I don’t think where wages are concerned it matters so much. Signing on fee could be the answer. Easy to recoup a eg. £1m signing on fee. In transfer fees. Unless folk think he’s not worth that.

You've forgotten to add that we'll be selling half the first team and Valerien is definitely off because he's had enough of us being a selling club! :D:D:D

What if he just fancies a change? The same might apply to Woodrow. It's a big chunk of a persons life 4 years and 3 years respectively.

Mowatt is a great player with the potential to improve even more. I'm not sure the system Val has played this season totally suited him though, and because of that I can see why some think he isn't as good as he actually is. When he has had the chance to get on the ball and make something happen, he has done it. But in most games he has always looked rushed and scrappy as he was trying to get the ball forward asap (as is the game plan), but has not been able to get forward to use it in the danger area as much as he would hope.

I see it this way. We won't determine if he is regarded as a perm player but the acquiring team will. Leeds seems the obvious fit having played there, locality, still has friends there and they will pay bigger wages. From the clubs view they may not be able to secure Jack Harrison permanently from Man City. It's a free hit for them to sign him up on a free transfer and see if he can play the Harrison role. If they do secure Harrison then they have cover. I don't think he will want to go to any club where he feels he will be 2-3 steps down in the pecking order. This is why Hourihane left Villa. I could see the likes of Swansea, Brentford if promoted taking a punt. However I think he will end up at a club in the Champ who have deletions of grandeur (Reading, Cardiff, Blackburn etc). It will be a shame if he is yet another player who leaves and ends up playing for InTheWilderness.FC
