I’m aware how the negotiations have been going. :)
he’s never moved far from home for his job (unlike most footballers)
He’s a new dad, just bought a family home with both sets of parents minutes away, his girlfriend has a new business not that far away.

It’s 100 miles to WBA training ground, a doable commute, but I suspect he doesn’t fancy spending the equivalent of 2 days a week driving to / from training.

As posted previously, you can put a maybe against Sheffield Utd or Forest, but I honestly think he’s more likely staying.

And of the last 5 managers that left us, what’s the total number of players that followed them to their new club? You’re suggesting 3 might follow, how have I missed this being the way things happen? Who were the last 15?

I was referring to what other posters have put.

If they come back for "the likes of helik or styles"

Well aware of how many players have followed the managers.

Doesn't mean it will never happen does it

All of that pales into insignificance when you’re offered a chance to set yourself up financially for life.

I'm assuming he means if they come for any players still under contract.

I was. By the reference of ripping a team to pieces. Unless we have multiple Alex's knocking about. More importantly it was preceded with IF

So all the times the club mentioned being in negotiations, and the times Alex mentioned it - they were all lies.

Jeez, tinfoil must be in short supply in some parts of Barnsley.

Oh aye; cos the million+ he’s already earned must mean he’s round his mums for beans on toast.
Let’s be honest, we’re probably looking at the difference between £2m and £2.5m to a kid who lives in one of the cheapest places to live in the country. A straight swap of his house to Warwickshire would likely cost him an extra half a million.

So get Kyle Dempsey lined up from Gillingham. Like-for-like replacement, who would fit seamlessly into the structure of the team. I know that folks might prefer Styles into Mowatt's role and that is another option, but would require someone to compete with either Clarke Oduor, or Jordan Williams at left back. Good left backs are like gold dust.

He could go to see a Shakespeare play more often though and it's beautiful round Stratford upon Avon, some gorgeous properties!

I'm not saying that didn't happen but say barnsley for example say we can give you 10k a week alex his agent could be saying wait untill summer a better offer will come up signing on fee, or he could be saying sheffield United and forest are interested wait untill the summer. Alex was always saying he was waiting untill the summer before deciding his future.

Not being picky… but it is what you said (posted).
Maybe it’s not what you meant?

Well anyways we tried we either didn't offer enough or he can earn far more elsewhere and a big signing on fee whichever looks like hes off. He owes us nothing 3 great years a promotion and a play off campaign. Thanks alex.

I’ve done a few weeks working there - doable? Yes.
Would you want to do it several times a week for 3 years?
Well I wouldn’t, but some might.
I appreciate I was doing 8hr days, that made them 12 hr days, and football training is only half a day.
But it’s still a couple of days a week sat in a car, every week.

Absolutely. I've historically travelled a lot for work. The 6 months I did commuting to Middlesboro for the NHS were mentally exhausting. Worse than London Mon - Fri by train / hotel.
By the end of the 6 months I was almost on auto-pilot, probably not the safest driver on the A19 towards the end. If I was tired enough to let mistakes creep into my work, I imagine the effect on a pro-sportsman could be just as significant.

However, if a player holds enough power to negotiate a triple-your-pay contract, then the easy part of that negotiation must be the bit about minimising travel time and making sure a decent hotel is on tap a few days a week.

It didn’t do Mido any favours. Jim O’Brien said his car was full of fast food wrappers when he was doing the Middlesbrough to Barnsley commute haha

I’d be worried if we rely on that set of players for a season.

He's more likely to follow the CEO than Val IMHO.
